A Maiden's Son (Returning)

Chapter 3

Jason POV
I don’t know what Percy and Annabeth were rambling about. All I knew was It was three in the morning, the two had woken me up abruptly, and Annabeth was saying something about a dream. By the panicked look on her face, it must have been serious.
“Look, guys, it’s early. Way too early. This sounds serious but you’re Percy and Annabeth. You guys will figure, whatever this is, out.”
Percy looked at me solemnly.
“I guess you’re right Jason but the way Annabeth was shaking gave me a bad feeling. What she envisioned must be horrible. We don’t know where this place is or who this person could be.”
“Just keep your eyes and ears open for a while. Look, can I get back to sleep now.”
“He’s right, Percy.” Annabeth said, “Sorry for bothering you, Jason.”
“Not at all. Just go get some sleep. You don’t need to worry about this dream now. You have other things to think about, like Percy becoming the camp leader.”
This was true. Chiron had decided he was getting to old and slow to run the camp so he decided to appoint Percy as camp director when he saw that he was fully recovered from his detour to Tartarus. This quest was actually a test to prove that and I’d say Percy passed. The couple left and I got a few more hours of sleep. When I got up the next morning I really needed some juice. My throat was dry as a bone and my skin was still clammy from that chipmunk saliva. I decided to get juice first and shower later. Apparently I wasn’t the only one who had that idea. Leo and Thalia were at the table with plates of half eaten eggs and toast chatting up a storm, and I know a thing or two about storms. I was still in zombie mode so I didn’t care what they were talking about until they started laughing while I was halfway through my juice.
“What’s so funny?”
“Dude, are you deaf?” Leo chuckled, “We’ve been trying to talk to you for five minutes but you just keep looking at your juice.”
“Oh really? I’m just tired.”
“Must be,” Thalia added, “You didn’t answer even when we started saying things to you like ‘losersstayssilent!’ We lost it when Leo came up with ‘Hey Jason, stay silent if you want to do it with Piper.’”
“Ha ha,” I said sarcastically, “You guys suck.”
“But you didn’t answer so it must be true,” Leo said, “She IS after all a child of Aphrodite. You just know she wants it.”
“Okay well I’m going to take a shower so that if you do continue saying stuff, I won’t have to hear it.”
“Say hi to Piper for me when you guys pop it.” Thalia said as I left.
I was about ready to strangle both of them, if what they said wasn’t true. I tried not to think about it too much but every once in a while the thought of me and Piper sprang into my head. After I came back from my shower I saw that everyone else had woken up. Piper, Thalia, and Nico were chatting while the couples were doing coupley stuff: Holding hands, exchanging quick kisses. I pulled out the chair next to Piper wondering if I would get sucked into the couple vortex. She did grasp my hand but her and I just kept chatting with Thalia and Nico about what would happen when we got back, gossip about the other couples, that sort of thing. It was not two hours later when the boat arrived at the camp. A few people there were outside ready to greet us but most were just absorbed in their own things.
“Percy my boy,” Chiron said, “We have matters to discuss.”
“Of course sir,” Percy replied.
“Good luck man!” I told him as he walked to the Big House, the sky blue three story farm house in the middle of the camp.
Everyone else had stuff to do. There was about half a day’s worth of sunlight so I trained in the arena for a bit, failed horribly at an attempt to make a shield at the forge, and beat the climbing wall, narrowly avoiding getting molten lava dumped on my face near the end. I was walking towards my cabin when someone stopped me. I turned around to see that Rachel Elizabeth Dare had grasped my arm. Rachel was the Oracle for the camp and one of my friends. She received prophecies of major events. Not major events like who would win the next super bowl, no, these events were just as deadly but nearly twice as important.
“What has Annabeth told you?” She asked with a look of horror on her face.
“What?”
“She had some sort of dream and almost collapsed when trying to tell me about it. She told me you know and Percy’s in the Big House.”
“Not much, I was too tired to listen anyway.”
“Look, I need you to remember. Please.”
“I can’t off the top of my head.”
“Then walk with me and try to remember!”
We started walking in the forest. She was rambling on about how something bad might happen and it might have to do with this dream of Annabeth’s. We passed the occasional Satyr and Wood Dryad but she kept trying to get me to remember this dream. Annabeth had told me but I just couldn’t remember.
“Look, all I remember was that some dude covered in fire came to Annabeth in a dream. Can’t you wait until Percy gets back and ask him?”
“Not enough time, I need to know now!”
“Why, what’s so important?”
“I have a new prophecy, it came to me in a dream. At first I dismissed it but it might have something to do with this dream. I need to know now because if we don’t figure it out, we all might die.”
