It's Not Too Late: A Percy Jackson Fanfiction

Chapter One

I've been at Camp Half-Blood since I was a little kid. I've sat back and watched people I love die, and leave. I've had tons of friends, but I've never had another friend like Percy Jackson. He came when he was twelve years old. He's the son of Poseidon. Yes, you read correctly. If you're wondering why this is such a big deal, Poseidon is one of the Big Three. The Big Three made an oath to never have another demigod child. This was after the Oracle predicted that the next child of the Big Three will make a choice that either saves, or destroys Olympus. Poseidon broke the oath with Percy, as well as Zeus with Thalia. Hades stayed true to his word. I sat with Percy on the healthy, green grass by Thalia's old tree. The Golden Fleece flapping in the wind.
"How was your first year at Paul's school?"
"Not too bad, I haven't blown anything else up yet," Percy smiled. Last year he destroyed freshman orientation, lets not go into detail.
"Good job," I smiled.
"Yeah. So have you made any friends in San Francisco?" I lowered my head a little. I only made one, but I can't be real around her. She can't come to my house because she lives really far from me, and I can't tell her I'm a demigod. So it basically feels like I'm not being honest. Her name is Kim.
"Pshh, tons," I lied.
"You know, you could have called or something."
"Sorry."
"It's fine, It just gets a little lonley. I haven't been able to make friends like you have. Rachel can't go to Goode."
"I'm sorry, I haven't really either, but we have each other."
"Yeah." Percy smiled as he slipped his hand into mine. It's sweaty, but what do I care?
"Come on, lets go get dinner."
"You know you can't sit with me right?"
"I've done it before. I'll do it again."
"Okay, Wise Girl." We were walking to the dining pavillion, hand in hand, when a sickening, familiar laugh filled the air.
"What's this?"
"Go away, Clarisse," Percy warned.
"I didn't do anything wrong this time."
"This time," I repeated.
"Do you have something to say, Annabell?"
"You know my name, you rotten, no good, piece of sh-"
"Okay, Annabeth, that's enough," Percy shut me up. Clarisse rolled her eyes and turned away. Percy and I continued our walk.
"Sorry, Percy. She's just so," I said, forgetting completly that she was right in front of me.
"Yeah," Percy agreed. "I know."
"What did you say?"
"Nothing," I said. Before I even knew what happened, Clarrisse swung her fist right at my face. I ducked back, and swung, but I missed. Percy was yelling at us to stop it. Clarisse swung again, but Percy jumped in front of me. Instead of me, she hit Percy. Right in the eye.
"I'll get you for this," Percy yelled. Other campers near us just stared. Clarisse walked away, and Percy held his eye.
"Is your eye okay?"
"I'll be fine," he croaked. We sat down at the Poseidon table, and nobody seemed to care, but we aren't supposed to sit at other tables. From the Ares table, Clarisse gave us a dirty look. Her sibblings did the same.
"I hate her," I complained. "She's worthless."
"She'll get what she deserves." He was still keeping his hand over half of his face.
"How bad is your eye?"
"Not that bad."
"But you're still holding it," I said. "Just let me see." Percy knew not to argue. He lifted his hand from his eye and showed me. It was really red and I knew it would be worse the next day. His eye, the injured one, was squinting a lot.
"It's not that bad," I lied. It was pretty bad. We stood up and went to scrape part of our meal into the fire. Then we sat back down and ate. Chiron stood in front of all of us, waiting for silence.
"Tomorrow, we will play capture the flag. All weapons are allowed, blue team versus red team." A cheer from the Ares table. They just love to try and kill us when we play. "Well, enjoy your meal. Then head off to your cabins." Chiron sat back down with Mr. D. Grover galloped to us.
"Hey, G-man," Percy greeted.
"Percy, how have you been?"
"Good, you?"
"Good," Grover smiled. He turned to me. "Annabeth, I know he's not gonna tell me, so why is he holding his eye?"
"Gee, I feel the love," Percy complained. "I got punched... By a girl," he tilted his head, ashamed.
"Yeah! He got punched," I said. Percy stared at me in pure embarassment. "Saving me, it was so brave," I added. Grover must have thought I wasn't looking, because under the table I saw him fist bump Percy.
"Nice."
"Yeah." After dinner, Percy walked to his cabin, and I walked to mine.
