Half-Blooded, Half-Chosen

Chapter Seven

Chapter Song(s) -
I'd Love to Change the World

I Know What You Did Last Summer

I stared at Maryse. “Isn’t that a little melodramatic?” Alec shut the doors behind him, and the room took on a new air. “Maybe not.” I rubbed my temples and sat down next to Percy.

Maryse shook her head. “The fact that the worlds are already starting to clash together presents a problem that is going to be blown out of the water if it continues.”

Percy straightened up a little more. “What do you mean? Different worlds have co-existed for many millennia. Why would there be a problem after such a long time?”

“That’s the problem. They co-existed in their own frame of reality. What do you think is happening right now?” Maryse gestured to Percy and I. “You’re from Greek descent and were raised as such, but you used our technology to get here. It’s already creating a rift.”

“But I’m from Greek descent too.” I said, opening my hands. “And I was raised here.”

Maryse sighed. “Yes, well, you’re different because the part of you that has godly blood is minimal. Your effect on this world is like a drop in the ocean. I know you’re at more of a risk to be a target, but right now, you’re the least of my problems.”

Rude. I thought.

“So, what’s going to happen?” Percy asked. “How bad is the damage getting? I know that there was an issue, but Chiron didn’t make it out to be as bad as it’s sounding now.”

Maryse shook her head. “Using a portal for something contained in another realm rips a hole in the fabric that’s holding everything together. If this was the only time it had happened, it would be different. The hole keeps widening and the fabric is thinning beyond repair. I’m afraid there’s going to be irreparable damage and eventually that will lead to wars between powers.”

Percy dropped his head between his hands. “This sounds an awful lot like a quest.”

I looked at Maryse. “Can we stop it?”

Maryse moved to answer me, but a crash from the room Annabeth was in distracted her. She and Percy jumped up simultaneously and ran for the door, but she put a hand on his chest. “You don’t want to be in there right now. Later.”She opened the door and shut it, and the sliding of a lock told us that it was final.

“I’m sorry.” I sighed. “This is all my fault. I should have known I was already a problem and I made it worse by reaching out to you.”

Percy shook his head. “There’s already been unrest and rips in the different worlds. You’re not at anymore fault than the rest of us are. I just didn’t know that it was as crucial to stop it. Chiron has been more stressed than usual, but we didn’t think any different because he gets like that.”

Alec shifted from his spot in the corner. “I’m going to check and make sure our portal is actually shut down and that another surprise visit hasn’t happened.” He grabbed Jace on his way out, who protested loudly and rudely like he always does.

“Okay…” I shook my head. “Do you think that we could safely fix this without making more damage? It would be nice if this could stay low – key and that we could just take care of it without involving the Clave or your gods. I’m sick of having to deal with people more powerful than me.”

Percy nodded. “I think we can, but we are going to need to get Chiron and some other people from the camp to meet with Maryse. There’s no way just one realm can fix this. We have to work together somehow.”

That’s the problem. I thought. There’s no easy way out of this one…

A yelp came from the room Maryse and Annabeth were in, and I jerked my head to the side. "I don't think I've met your Annabeth yet." I said, looking back at my brother.

He smiled. "She's something."

"I can tell." I said, remembering why I had passed out in the first place. Maybe I was just experiencing that "risk" factor. In any case, I felt as if though there was a storm brewing on the horizions, and we were here to watch it break loose without any means of stopping it.

Notes

Yes. I have in fact been absent for a year.
No, you're right...I am one of those terrible authors that waits months and months to update.
BUT I DID.
Also, happy 4 year anniversary to this story. I'll be back soon.
