Melody opened her eyes.
She was lying on the floor of a small hewn stone cavern. Water dripped steadily from somewhere behind her. The only light came from a golden casket in the center of the cavern.
Melody got to her feet shakily. Around her two other figures got to their feet. She vaguely knew them from camp, Jace something-or-other from Hermes cabin and Cathrine Chen, a small Asian girl from Demeter. Melody didn't know them very well, and from the looks of it they didn't know each other at all.
Melody decided to ignore them for the time being and went to examine the casket. Three golden steps lead up to a platform where the casket lay. Markings were etched all around the base, but she couldn't read them. In the center of the casket was a statue of a golden eagle, wings spread as though in flight. The base of the statue was molded to the top of the casket. Its ruby eyes seemed to follow Melody as she examined the casket.

Melody took a step away from it. The casket was starting to glow brighter. Melody didn't want to know what was in there. She wanted to leave.
She looked around the cavern searchingly, but there didn't seem to be a way out. The place was circular and the walls were solid rock.
She looked up. Right above the tomb was a fist-sized hole in the ceiling, barely noticeable in the light given off by the casket.

“What was that?!” Cathrine shrieked. Melody whirled, her hand going to her empty belt loop. She cursed when she realized she hadn't taken her sword with her.

Cathrin was cowering behind Jace, who had a pocket knife out. Something was slinking around in the shadows at the far end of the cavern.

“Be quiet!” Melody hissed. Something brushed against her ankles, and she screamed, abandoning any pretenses of being calm.

Snakes. Three of them.
Melody jumped back as they slithered across the floor, hissing, and wrapped themselves around the base of the casket. And then starting at the tip of the third snakes tail, they began to turn into solid gold. The snakes writhed and hissed as they changed into gold, but stayed locked into place.
No one spoke. Cathrine and Jace were frozen in shock, Cathrine gripping Jace's arm tight enough to leave a bruise.

The casket glowed brighter than ever as soon as the last bit of snake was changed. Melody gasped as the floor rumbled beneath their feet.

Something was awakening, something older than anything she'd ever seen or felt before.
The floor rumbled again, and then shook. Melody barely stayed on her feet. The source of the rumbling seemed to come from the casket. The hole in the ceiling was starting to glow.
Bits of rock fell from the shaking ceiling. And then the first touch of moonlight came through the small hole in the ceiling, shining down on the center of the casket. The floor began to crack as pure power swept through the room. Melody slipped and fell, shielding her eyes from the rubble as the hole in the ceiling grew larger.

The moonlight caught the eagle statue in the very center of the casket.
The ruby eyes of the golden eagle glowed red, and the casket lid slid off and fell on the base, cracking it in two.
Everything went still.
Melody looked over to Jace and Cathrine, who got to their feet unsteadily. Melody stood.

The glow from the casket was gone. The only light was the moonlight coming through the now much larger hole in the ceiling, which streamed down to something moving in the casket.

A male figure sat up in the casket. Slowly he reached up and pulled the cloth on his face off.
And then he turned his head and looked at the three demigods, who were all standing together.
Melody gasped and Jace slapped his hand over her mouth.
His eyes... They glowed like a gods did before they reverted to their immortal form. His hair was blonde and waist length.
He slowly slipped out of the coffin and stood. Melody and Cathrine gripped Jace's arms.

The boy reached his hand out, as if to touch them.
Melody reached her hand out as well, but just before she touched him his eyes suddenly stopped glowing and rolled back in his head. The boy fell face down on the ground at their feet.
They stood for a moment silently. Then Jace broke the silence.

“Is that it?” He asked. “After all that build up this is the only thing that happens?”
Melody rolled her eyes and dropped to her knees. She rolled the boy over.
His face was literally perfect. Melody tried to keep herself from noticing, but she couldn't help it. His nose looked like it had been carved by Micheal Angelo. High cheek bones gave him an almost regal appearance, and his chiseled jawline gave him a masculine edge. She patted his cheek, noting how soft his skin was. No trace of facial hair.
“How do we get out of here?” Cathrine asked. “I say we ditch the guy and get back to Camp.”
“We can't just leave him here!” Jace argued. “We were brought here for a reason!”
Melody patted the boys cheek again. His eyes opened just as Cathrine spoke again.
“How do you know that?” She asked. “You can't just assume-”
Melody screamed as the boys hands closed around her neck, cutting off her air. She struggled against his hold, finally grabbing his left peck and twisting it as hard as she could.
The boy dropped his hands at once, and Melody scooted backwards across the floor, rubbing her neck.
To their astonishment, the boy started to cry. Not quiet tears, like Jace might. (And he had one time, Melody had seen him cry in Capture the Flag when he was kicked in the balls by Annabeth.)
The boy was sobbing like a small child might if it were scared. Melody instantly wanted to comfort him. She started to crawl back across the floor.
“What're you doing?!” Jace cried. He grabbed her and pulled her away from the boy. “Are you out of your mind?! He just tried to kill you!”
Melody shook her head, confused. She still wanted to help the boy, even though she knew he was dangerous.
“I-I don't know,” She said shakily. Her throat burned as she spoke, and she rubbed her neck again.
“We need to get him to Camp.” Jace said finally. They stood a minute longer, watching the boy sob on the ground.
The boy look imploringly up at Melody. “Marm,” He said. His eyes were an almost unnatural blue color, swimming with tears.
“Um, did he just call you Mom?” Cathrine asked. Melody shrugged. “I think he said Marm,” She said. The boy reached his hands up towards her and cried, “Up! Up!”
Melody tentatively reached down and pulled the boy to his feet, where he promptly fell on her. Jace slipped one of the boys arms over his own shoulder and pulled him off of Melody. Melody grabbed his other arm.
“How are we supposed to get out of here?” Cathrine asked. Melody scanned the cave. The only exit was the hole in the ceiling.
“We can stand on the coffin and get out that way,” Melody said. She and Jace heaved the boy over to the casket. They stood in a circle, staring up.
“He can't stand,” Jace said finally. “We can't get him out this wa- WOAGH!”
The boy had been staring at the night sky with a fascinated expression on his face. Suddenly he bent his knees and jumped, flying through the hole and out of sight.
They gaped after him. Then they heard a muted thud! And the sound of the boy crying.
Cathrine and Melody stood on the edges of the coffin and cupped their hands for Jace to step into. Jace jumped easily from their hands to the hole, where he caught the edge and hoisted himself up.
A moment later his legs vanished through the hole and the girls heard a cry of surprise. They waited with bated breath.
“You guys are never going to believe this!” Jace bellowed, poking his head back through the hole. “We're on Olympus!”
