A Quest
Delia
Chiron called Delia and Kat up to recite the prophecy. Together they recited it:
'Twin doves and son of owl shall fly,
To reach the woods up in the sky.
They shall seek he who does not wish to be sought,
On his return the battle for camp will be fought.'
Everyone was silent, processing the prophecy. Delia knew what they were thinking as she had been thinking it all day- 'Why would they seek out someone if ge was going to bring war to the camp?" Why? Because she had to find her dad.
Muttering broke out.
"Hush children." Chiron ordered. "First we must select the ones to go on the quest. The twin doves are obviously Delia and Kat here, but the son of owl? That could mean a boy of Athena or Hades. Do we have any volunteers?"
"I volunteer!" Nic lept to his feet and gave Kat a meaningful look. Delia raised an eyebrow but kept silent, wondering if Kat had told her everything.
"No!" Kat exclaimed, "I'm not going anywhere with you!"
"Nic I'm sorry but if Kat doesn't want you on the quest then you won't be able to go." Chiron declared. Nic sat down, disappointed.
"I'll go with her!" A boy in black emerged from the shadows.
"Any protests this time?" Chiron asked Kat.
Kat shook her head and Delia wondered if she already knew the boy.
"Very well, Nico, you may accompany them. You leave in the morning." Chiron nodded to the girls- they were dismissed.
"Wait!" A voice called from the back of the crowd as an Apollo girl pushed her way to the front. "Who's leading the quest- like officially?"
"Does this matter, Grace?" Chiron asked.
"Isn't there supposed to be an official leader for quests? Just saying." Grace held up her hands as if to surrender.
"Fine," Chiron said curtly, "Which of you wants to lead?" He asked the twins.
"Delia can," Kat said, "She's been here longer than me." She said it reluctantly, clearly wanting to lead.
"No Kat. I want you to lead." Delia said and she meant it.
"For real?" Kat asked, surprised.
"Yeah!" Delia said. "I suck at making decisions anyway, you lead." Kat nodded gratefully.
"Now that that's sorted, you leave at 10, we'll lend you some Pegasi from the stables and some cash and stuff from the camp store. For now, eat and have fun!"
Nervousness clawing at her stomach, Delia was quiet through most of dinner and she sat next to Leo at the campfire. He noticed her nerves but he just pulled her closer, whispering in her ear "You'll be fine!"
She wished she could be as sure as him. Heading back to her cabin, she stared at the ceiling until Piper called lights out, preparing herself for a sleepless night.
