It's in my DNA

"'That' would be Mormo, my sweets." A voice snarled from the shadows. She came into the light and Delia got a proper look at her first monster. Mormo was a lady with a pretty face ruined by blood-stained fangs and hair that looked more like a lizard frill. Her sleeveless black dress looked to be made of snakeskin and ended in smoke, leaving her floating off the ground.

"My mama used to tell me about you." Delia managed through the fear, "You were one of the vampires that went around biting naughty children. B-but you're a servant of Hecate. She's on our side!"

"I'm no one's servant!" The vampire snarled. "But you're right about the naughty children. And you, my sweets, have been very naughty children!"

She lunged at them with her fangs aimed at Kat's neck. Delia's blade lept to her hand and she lunged out. Slicing off Mormo's fangs.
The vampire let out a piercing wail. "How am I supposed to bite you if I have no fangs?"

Kat drew her blade and stabbed Mormo in the stomach. "Point is lady, you can't!" Mormo dissolved into green powder around Kat's blade, leaving behind a demon-tooth necklace that Kat strung on her neck.

Delia smiled at her sister. "Good job!"

Kat nodded. "Where's Nico?"

They rushed into the cave, their blades casting a faint glow as they searched right to the back of the cave. Delia noticed a tunnel at the back with a light in the far distance.

"Over here!" Kat called and Delia ran to her sister's side.

Nico was paler than normal and two puncture marks were prominent on his neck, the skin around them turning green.

"Poisoned fangs." Delia gasped.

They shared a silent look and dragged Nico outside and fed him as much nectar as they dared.

"He needs a healer." Delia said. "But the nearest one would be-"

"Our dad." Kat agreed. "But how are we going to get there?"

"Remember Hermes saying that the entrance started as a cave?" Delia asked. "I found a tunnel in the back."

They stared at the cave for a while then set to work.

They put together a make-shift stretcher for Nico from their supplies and packed up their other gear.

In no time they were ready to set off. They left just as the green powder struggled to form a shape behind them.

As they struggled to get Nico through the cave Delia thought thay if thay was only her first monster, she didn't want to meet her second.
