The Lost Daughter

A talk with Luke

"Ok, seriously. How long have we been on this boat?!" Tarynn asked. How was I supposed to know?! "Um, like a few hours or something?" I answered, "I'm getting a little seasick." "Oh, um please don't puke on me." Tarynn said. "I'll try not too. Don't you get seasick?" I asked. "No, not really. Actually, never." Tarynn said. Ok, we had to get out of here. I stood up and walked over too the cell door.

Tarynn looked at me, "What are you doing? Even if we somehow open the locked cell door, we can't escape. We're in the middle of the ocean. And a lifeboat would not get us away fast enough." "I wish Luke was smart. Then he would've gotten an airplane. That's much faster." I said. "Wait, do you know where he's taking us?" Tarynn asked. "I have a pretty good idea." I said. "Hey, how do you know Luke? Have you met before? What's so important about him?" Tarynn asked.

I hesitated and was about to answer when heavy footsteps started down the stairs. I panicked and sat down, pushing my feet hard enough to slide me to the back of my cell. Tarynn was impressed. Then she layer down, rolled over and pretended to be asleep. I put my head down, resting my arms on my knees.

I heard a voice. Luke. How could I explain to Tarynn? I don't like lying to her, but on this occasion I had to. "She asleep?" He asked. "Ya, so shut up." I answered. "Listen, you could join me. And show dad, that we are meant to have his attention." Luke said. I rolled my eyes, but then realized what he had just revealed to me. I quickly stood up. "So that's why!" I said. Luke looked at me questioningly.

"You want dad's attention! But this is your solution?" I asked, beckoning to the boat. Luke just stared at me, his eyes intense. It was hard to scold him, since he looked so innocent. But we all know Luke is nowhere near to innocent.

"Don't you want his attention? Don't you wish he actually cared about us, or even listened to us?!" Luke yelled. I glanced over at Tarynn. "He does listen to you, Luke! You've defiantly made your mark in his book. But in the wrong place. It's not too late, you know. Come with us, come to camp! Don't get yourself in deeper trouble!" I said pleadingly.

What was I thinking?! Luke would never agree. And I was right. "They have blinded you. Can't you see?! They are using you!" Luke yelled again. "You know that's not true!" My voice faltered. He smiled and turned to go. "You can't dwell on the past! You need to move on! Please Luke, I haven't given up on you. And I still won't." I said. He stopped in his tracks. "And you need to stop believing in things that will never come true." And then he left.

Tarynn didn't sit up for a while. I didn't know how I'd explain to her...
