The Librarian
Driving in the Fast Lane
Leo and I had been driving for what seemed like forever. The night was blacker than usual, since it had started raining a few hours ago and the clouds were covering the moon and stars. It gave the drive an eerie feeling.
"So what is your brother like?" Leo asked, dark eyes scanning the road.
"He's...different." I sighed. "He's always been in some sort of trouble, and I've always had to bail him out of it."
"That stinks." Leo sympathized.
"Yeah." I agreed, yawning. My eyes felt like they were going to fall out of their sockets, I was so tired.
"Good thing I'm driving, sleepyhead." Leo teased.
"Mmmhhmm." I slumped against the seat, my eyesight drifting in and out.
"Stay awake, Kimmi. You're the one who knows the address, not me." Leo leaned over and shook my shoulder, when I heard a loud screech and a bang.
"What was that?" I jerked up. Leo slowed the car down, pulling it over onto the side of the road, when something slammed into the front of the vehicle.
"Great." Leo slumped down into his seat. "I just got a wax job, too."
"Leo!" I yelled, seeing two bright lights heading straight for us.
"What?" It was the last word I heard before everything shattered.
"Kimmi. KIMMI."
"Wha-what?" I groaned, sitting up.
"We're here." Leo pointed across the wheel to a run down shack sitting in the middle of nowhere, trees enclosing it. "Is this the right address?"
I shook my head groggily. "Wait, we're here?"
"We've been driving for four hours. You slept for about two and a half of them." He gave me a strange look. "Are you okay?"
I rubbed my eyes, pinching my cheeks to make sure I was awake. "I think so."
Leo opened his door, stepping out. "Come on, then. Let's go see what the big problem is."
