The Librarian
Dreams and Oblivion
My dreams were awful. I was spinning, spinning, spinning on into forever, demons shrieking in my ears and darkness enveloping my heart. I screamed and cried, but no sound escaped my lips.
I finally whipped my head to the side and hit something hard. "Owwwch." I groaned, rubbing the sore spot on my temple.
"She's awake!" Leo cried gleefully.
"Yeah, sort of." I pushed myself up on my elbows, still covered in mud. "Where are we?"
"We are at some random gas station that I found." He answered, squinting up at the sign. "Colby's?"
"Awesome." I moaned.
"I got you a cheeseburger..." He tempted me, waving the greasy meat in front of my nose.
"Only you would think about eating." I laughed. "I think I'll pass, though."
"Fine with me." He bit into the burger, oil dripping off the bun. I wrinkled my nose. Ew.
"So, where are we, exactly?" I questioned. "I mean, are we close to home, or...?"
"I have no idea." He shrugged.
"Fantastic." I grimaced. "Does the gas station at least have a bathroom so I can clean off all this mud?"
"Mmmmph." He pointed vaguely towards the lit up building.
"Um, thanks?" I stood up slowly and trudged into the light. It wasn't much, really. Just a small convinience store. A bell rang as I walked in.
"Can I help you?" An old man rasped from the corner of the run-down shack.
"Um. Do you have a bathroom?"
He pointed towards a darkened area, at an old beat up door.
"Thanks." I walked slowly towards it, pushing it open with a touch. It groaned and creaked painfully, revealing a flooded toilet and a dirty sink.
"Nasty." I muttered, snagging some paper towels off a rotting shelf.
"KIMMI?" I heard Leo yell before the door banged open.
"What the he-"
"We have to go. NOW." He grabbed my still muddy arm and dragged me out towards his car.
