The Shipwreck
I folded my arms and stared at them expectantly. "Well?" I prompted.
"Come with us." Cally said. "We can explain on the way."
I sighed but relented and followed after them in silence back to the apartment and we all piled into Leo's car.
"Are you going to explain this brilliant plan or just keep stalling?" I asked once Leo had pulled out onto the highway.
"We reckon there can't be much harm with checking out the shipwreck." Leo explained. "We'll fly to Florida and rent some diving gear. It's safer than letting you go alone."
I let out a puff of air and sunk back against the seat.
"Are you okay?" Cally asked, leaning over and resting a hand on my knee. Her eyes seemed to flicker for a second, turning solid black before reverting back to their normal shade. "You look tired." I felt a jab in my calf and before I could flinch she pulled the needle from my leg and laughed, showing teeth like needles.
The world faded.
The first thing I noticed was the pain. It was if my nervous system had declared a civil war on itself, agony racing up and down my limbs and bursting through my skull. I was chained to something, a chair maybe, handcuffs burning against the flesh on my wrists and ankles as if they were trying to chafe their way to bone. Something that tasted like dirt was stuffed inside my mouth, making it hard to breathe.
My eyes fluttered open and took in the dim surroundings. I was surrounded by smooth metal that shone silver wherever it managed to catch light from the tiny porthole in the wall that let in an odd blue light. Someone was facing me, chained in the same way to a chair, his hair was covering his face.
I struggled to spit out the rag in my mouth. "Nico?" I gasped.
His eyes shot up from the floor.
