My journey

It was a warm and sunny day, like all the others in Florida, but it didn't seem quite normal. Jake and I had stopped by my favorite breakfast place, Dunkin' Donuts. Well it's my favorite place to eat actually. Luckily I brought some money.

"How's your glazed donut?" I asked with my mouth full

"Great! How's your um whatever you got?" He asked with a smile

"You mean my chocolate chip strawberry donut with vanilla icing and rainbow sprinkles? Good!"

"So where are we headed?" He asked

"I have no idea. I was just planning on heading north until I find somewhere to settle."

"Cool, well we should be heading off soon."

"Good idea."

We headed off with the cool ocean breeze pounding against our faces. It was too quiet, especially for Miami. I looked back at Miami and it looked like a ghost town. I really missed my dad and I started thinking about the great times we had together. It made me mad that I just left without saying goodbye. Jake must have noticed That something was wrong.

"What's the matter?" He had a worried yet disappointed look in his eyes.

"I was just thinking about my dad."

"Oh, I know how you feel. I ran away from my parents too."

I looked up in shock. "Oh well I bet my life was worse than yours."

"A lunatic mom and a step dad who never liked me? Sure you had worse."

"My dad was one of the nicest people on the planet, but my step mom, oh she was a disaster."

"Race you to the boardwalk?" He managed to laugh out

"You're on!" I chuckled and took off with him right behind me

We spent the rest of the day laughing and goofing off by the shore, but we got going soon. After what felt like only an hour of running, we ended up in northern Virginia.

A boy walked out of a bush eating what seemed to look like a soda can. He spots us and throws the can away.

"Hey!" He says like we're good friends

"Hi, yeah sorry to be rude bit do we know you?" I ask

"Oh, I'm so sorry, I am Ash Damon. I'm looking for a Katie Luxemburg and a Jake Hill, do you know them?"

"I'm Katie and that's Jake." I smile "How dan we help you?"

"Well hello, I am here to take you to your new home."

"New home?" Jake asks

"Well it's a camp, but since you both ran away, it will be your home." As soon as he said that, he ripped off his pants only to reveal goat legs. "By the way i'm your protector"
