Nicolas Evens: The Rise of the new ones

Chapter 15

When we reached the outskurts of Atlanta, we settled down on a nearby hill overlooking a part of the city as we nursed Grover back to health. I noticed how well Liz was at healing, so while she did that I gave Adam a few lessons in combat manuver.

In reality he didn't need them, but I needed an excuse to ask him how he learned how to use that type of combat. It was nothing like Greek warfare. The way Adam faught back there was different. It was like he was a completely different person.

"What is it you wanted to teach me?" Adam asked.

"It's more like, I wanted to ask you how exactly did you learn how to fight like that." I relied. "You see, that style of combat was different. It wasn't Greek warfare at all, in fact it was the exact opposite. It also looked like it could've been more effective with a group rather than on your own."

Nodding, Adam agreed. "I was listening to an voice in my head. I believe it was Apollo. He told me to remain back and not charge in with an offesive strike. Then I just decided if I wasn't charging I'd rather await for my enemy to strike and then attack right when they move in."

"That tactic wasn't ever a method we used in practice." I admitted. "I'll have to ask Chiron about that." Turning my attention back to Grover and Liz, I noticed he looked better now. He was feeling better and up to speed.

After we explained everything about our quest to him, he nodded. He understood everything. The surprised prophecy, the dreams about Nyx and even how Apollo had possessed not just Adam but Liz's body too.

"I see." Grover nodded pulling forward a magical bag that held some kind of old yarn. "This might help you then. If you three are looking to venture the labyrinth, it'll help a lot. But where exactly are you three headed? Daedalus is dead. He's been for the passed few decades. It won't be any use to venture into the labyrinth."

"I remember Chiron telling me about the maze being rebuilt by a goddess." I replied. "I'm not sure but she could've reformed it. We need to travel to the island of creation. Only there will the true battle begin."

"Yea, and we only have a few days before the solstice." Liz added.

"Trying to get back before your birthday?" Grover smiled.

Instantly I shed a look as if, he had spoken too much. I never liked revealing my birthday to others, but considering it was no use, now was a heck of a time to tell them. Well, at least Adam.

"You're birthday is on December 22nd?" Adam wondered amazed at the thought.

"21st." I corrected. "I'll be fifteen in three days, I had hoped we could be back at the valley so I could celebrate with Markus and everybody else. Also, you've been missing for over a seventy-two hour period. We forgot to tell your mom, you were claimed. I'm sure she'd like to hear what happened."

"I have a golden drachma if you need to make a call." Grover admitted.

"Drachma?" Adam wondered. "Is that some weird way of saying coin in Greek?"

"Sorta, what would you call it?" Grover smirked.

"Denariis," He smiled. "It's Latin for money, or coins. The technical phrase is more of a gateway word. I also know Graceus, but that means outsider or in a way it's an insult." He squinted a bit picky in his phrasing.

"You're a rarity." Grover exhaled. "Nicolas, when you three get back to Long Island, make sure you speak to Chiron and mention the fact that Adam here knows Latin. He'd like to meet with him."

Confused, I smiled as if it were a good thing. Why wouldn't it be? Adam knowing both Greek and Latin meant that he was smart. It proved that he wouldn't just become a smart demigod but also a very equipt one.

"Sure thing," I nodded.

After saying our goodbyes to Grover, we made our way west. Apparently we'd find the closest entrance to the maze somewhere at the furthest west region of Georgia. Which Grover didn't lie about. After walking for a few miles, we made it to an old ranch that held a earth embedded route. Walking in slowly, we all made our way into Ancient Greek ruins.

I drew my sword, Illiad and decided from here on out, this was as far I could go with using my powers over darkness. Deciding to lead the unit, I told Adam to take up the rear and leave the center to Liz.

"Alright, guys," I announced. "I'm going to release the string, with this we can find the path that leads use to the Island of creation. Hopefully, we can find our way there and back qyickly."
