Nicolas Evens: The Rise of the new ones

Chapter 17

The beacon of light lead us directly into a monster trap. Have you ever felt like punching an Ancient God in his three faces? Well, that's exactly how I felt right now.

The monsters were varies in sizes. Some were as tall as a dog, others were towering so high that their heads nearly touched the ceiling of the tunnel. There were cyclopes, a handfull of Earthborn, a couple of hellhounds and even a couple of empusai. In the center there was this awkward looking man. His body was parted into three different colors and each section seemed to retain a neck and a head.

Whatever he was, he was dangerous and from the look of his eyes, he was also manipulative. Focusing all of my attention on the odd looking one, I raised Illiad. My friends behind me readied themselves. Liz with her dagger in hand and Adam with his spear.

Noticing the monsters coming from behind, I sighed in disappointment. These monsters weren't going to let us leave peacefully, like always they had to get in the way.

"It looks like were caged in." I conveyed to the team.

"As it does." A voice reached me, turning my attention back at the army of monsters, I realized it was from the mysterious man who was now shuffling forward. "A child of Hades. This is a change. I'm impressed considering how lousy the last one was. I would've thought he'd quit having demigods. Considering how they always failed him." Leaving a sly smile on his face, I realized this guy was trying to bait me.

He wanted me to get angry. But I wasn't going to let him get that satisfaction. If I was going to be angry about something It'd be about the fact that I couldn't go anywhere without these stupid monsters attacking me. I couldn't live a normal life and settle down. I could live with my own mother because of the fear of being attacked at home. I was on the run for the fates know how long. If I was going to be angry at someone, it was going to be the monsters!

Calming my pent up rage for just a bit longer, I took a breath. "I see. So what exactly are you?" I asked side stepping his remark.

"Not what, but who." The man smiled and in an instant the heads to his left and right reverted inward until they left miniture mountains on his necks. "I am the proprietor of Triple G ranch. My name is Greyon."

"I'm sorry, that doesn't explain anything. I still have no clue."

Enraged Greyon sighed. "I'm one of the twelve laborers of your forefather, Hercules. I own the Triple G ranch. You know my uncle, Pegasus. I'm sure my father Chrysaor rings some bells."

I actully understood the name. Chrysaor was an ancient immortal that had priated the seas and stole from sea ships. He'd attack a ship filled with many men, the more knowledged in myth the better. He'd kill off the men and if there were any women, he'd either hold them captive and sell them off to make money or mate with them. Either way Chrysaor was a ruthless priate and a forgotten son of Poseidon.

But this guy, Greyon, wasn't far from the tree. He was an enemy of Olympus. And I was tired of all the delays already. This quest was dragging on. It was bad enough it took so long to find Ariadne's string, but now of all times our enemies were beginning to reveal themselves.

In a quake of power, the pathway began to slowly chip off. I was tired of monsters getting in my way. In our way! It was time we fight back.

The promise I had made had to be broken even if it meant that I would have to use the powers of darkness.

"Enough!" I cried as a frissure opened up. In a shake of broken earth various monsters were dragged into the pits of Hades. I slowly gripped Illiad tighter as I summoned a plume of fire via mystokinesis.

A seige of flames slowly bowed down before my command as I cuppled my head, I ordered Adam to help.

Reving to life, the flames transformed into small humanoid weapons of mass destruction. In screams of terror the monsters vaccumed away fear triving off of them. Summoning a barrier of darkness, I drew them back and indulged myself in my own fear projecting abilities.

In a wake of horror the monsters slowly decinergrated into piles of ashes and ichor. I turned my attention to the remainder, and plagued them with a taste of celestial bronze. Every swing I took the monsters burned. Liz and Adam helped out by clearing the venue back, while I took up the front. I decided to leave Greyon alone, considering he was going to give me answers.

In a rapture of movements, I used my necromancy to banish monsters to the torments of Hades. Glancing around, I noticed the remaining half a dozen hellhounds bowing down before me. With a smile of my face, I called them forward.

Quickly grasping, Greyon I pinned him down against the wall. "You're going to tell me everything you know about Nyx and the pronogenoi."

After hearing everything about Nyx's plans, I released Greyon. "I suggest you leave now. The next time, you decide to attack me I'll release you back into torment."

"Understood." Greyon said as he raced off into darkness.

Glancing back at the others, I noticed they had killed off their share of enemies. I sighed, as I sat down on the grounds and decided it'd be best to rest now.

"Are you sure?" Liz wondered. "I mean we were just attacked by monsters."

"Notbing's headed our way anytime soon. I can sense that we're close too. Probably a few more miles walking and we'd be at the exit." I murmured exhaustedly. "Besides, we need to conserve energy. It'll be a war against Nyx when we arrive." I sighed and with that I fell into a dream.

I dreamed of an ancient city. It looked like most of it was covered in olden forest life and swamps. Grazing through the scenery, I noticed a legion of twelve beings. They were lined up all in still-life. I watched as each one of them awoke.

First it was a woman masked in darkness. She held star-light eyes and a cosmos like complexion.Next to her was a man that looked fairly similar, he only held a link-chain armor that covered his crotch-area and he seemed to be bored with life. The next one was a woman with serene grace. She was powder white in complexion, yet didn't seem to be as devoted as the other two.

Advocating my eyes from the line of pronogenoi, I smiled to notice another venue of deities. The first one was my dad. Hades. In a sudden grasp of my arm, he changed the scene. We were now back in his castle, and this time, I noticed his wife. Persephone.

The goddess was the ideal of beauty. Even in her scary form, she looked captivating yet refined. Her cores blue eyes, the shimmering black hair and her black and purple dress made her the ideal mate for anyone, especially me.

Taking a step forward, I smiled at her to which she scuffed. "Nice to see you again, Persephone."
"I'm glad your not dead yet, infedel." She snarked back at me. I enjoyed it when she did this. It was a game of cat and mouse. I could see why my father took so long to cort her.

Unamused by my cheap attempt at flattery, my father sighed. "I'd hate to interupt your little exchange." He announced, even though he was lying. "But, we have pressing matters, The sturring begins in a day. I'm hoping you can stop Nyx from causing an all out war on our most sacred day. Besides, I'm sure you of all people would like to go to war on the winter solstice." He said implying the fact that it was also my birthday.

"Yea, but the primordials are stronger than you think." I remarked. "I'm sure, it'll take more than just brute force to win this."

"Take these then." Persephone advised. Opening her palm, she offer me seeds. I wondered what seeds would do to the strongest gods to have ever been born.

"They're seeds that snuff out the life of even immottals, crush it and throw it at them and they'll work. Make sure to be carefully. They, won't work more than once."

Glancing at her I smiled. "Thanks."

"Nicolas," Hades murmured. "I'm sorry, for what I've been like towards you. I know that you hate me. But I can offer you one things. I've always looked after you."

In a flash of light, Persephone disappeared. Apparently, she didn't enjoy the father-son heart to heart talks. Especially when she had to acknowledge the fact that Hades cheated on her.

Takinf a deep breath, I sighed. "How so? I don't remember you being near me. You were never around."

"Do you remember getting a toy action figure every year since you were three?" Hades implored. Amazed, I gazed at him speechless. That never made sense to me. I never knew why I got a toy every year from the mailman. At first, I thought it was a distant relative giving me a new toy every birthday, but then I looked into the toys. They were apart of this game called mytho magic.

"You gave me those?" I asked.

"I was the mailman. Yes, I gave you an action figure of me as your first present. I was impatient for you to know about me. I wanted you to grow up and become a hero. One that would make me proud in some way."

"So, you do care." I muttered.

Hades nodded. "I care about all my children, it's just easier to be cold and distant. Become angry than to admit that you truly care about someone, even if that someone is your own son."

"This is what you could do for me." I siad. "Become a person I can count on. Be there for me, offer me guidance, advice and maybe, just maybe we could build a father-son relationship." Turning around, I stashed the seeds into my jacket pocket.

As I faded, I noticed a small smile forge at the bottom of his lip before I woke up.
