Nicolas Evens: The Rise of the new ones

Chapter 5

The shadows weren't that bad, well at least for me. Being a child of Hades always allowed me to experience the darkest sides to things. But when it came to shadow traveling, it was the exact opposite. Anyone who wasn't a demigod of Hades would see the true nature of this ability. It was like walking through darkness for what felt like an eternity. But when you escaped the shadows, all that you could think about was the shadows.

Gasping for air, we appeared at the empty plains deep in the forest. The Mural Crown was set before us and the only person that was standing in our way was Liz.

Her dirty blonde hair blew in the wind as she held her sword hilt at her waist strap. "It's about time. I was beginning to think, you wouldn't win this time."

"This time?" Adam muttered. "So you've won this before?"

I smiled. "Just about every Mural Crown since I arrived."

"But this time, he won't win." Liz announced. "Because unlike the last times, I'm not on his side. I'm against him. Nicolas, if you wanna get this Mural crown, you'll have to go through me!"

"Well, then. Adam take the crown. It's yours." I smirked. Listening to my orders, Adam began his move forward. With a swift strike, Adam blocked Liz's attack.

"No one's getting the crown!" Liz admitted. "Not even my baby brother."

Closing in to him, Liz grabbed his spear and knocked him backward. In a swift recoil, Adam did a backward over-the-shoulder roll. Regaining his footing, he smiled. "The difference between us, is this!" With a snap of his fingers a flame blazed in his palm. Touching his spear it blazed into a durable staff of fire.

With a quick movement, he striked inward and matted her down. Striking the spear into the griund, he smiled. It wasn't a big smile, more like a small insignificant smile that implied pain, but still a smile more or less.

"We done here?" He asked.

Gazing up at him, Liz looked like she had a moust caught in her throat. Marching forward, Adam made his way to the Mural Crown and grabbed it. With that the alarms rang across the forest, indicating the others that someone had won the challenge.

The mess hall was filled with demigods. Various of them I had gotten to know throughout my time here. They were mainly children of hermes and the other gods of Olympus, but at times you'd meet a child of Hebe or a child of Hecate, the goddesses of youth and magic.

Making my way through the mess hall, I took my seat at the black leather chairs piled near the western wing. Adam decided to dine with me and Liz , which gave him a chance to get to know us more.

"So how does it feel to be a demigod?" I asked him.

"Impowering, yet normal. Like i've been destined for this role." He replied.

"Yea, we've all been there!" Liz added. "It's energetic to have power, but I am jealous of you being able to use fire. No fair, how come I didn't get any abilities."

"The ability to use fire, nearly caused me to blow up a school." Adam replied. "I doubt you'd like to have an uncontrolable power. But I'm sure you have some talents."

"I'm smart with myths and remembering things."

"The gift of knowledge." I conveyed.

"But isn't Athena the goddess of wisdom?" Liz commented.

Grabbing the glass cup on the table, it filled with Mr.Pibb. With an amazed smile, I took a sip of the soda. "Good, it still works." I murmured. Glanzinbg at Liz I smirked. "Apollo was known as the god of knowledge. I remember reading various books about the gods, when I was in eighth grade. I know it's hard to admit but various stories platray the god different from their personality. I remember reading the Illiad, it was a great story. Platrayed the myths in a unique way. I also named my first weapon after it."

"Illiad. That book is huge!" Adam murmured. "How could you read so clearly, I mean don't you have. . ."

"Dyslexia? Yea. It was hard at first, but for some reason in the way it was written it got easier as I continued. The book was indeed long, which I envied, after I read it, I reread it and analyzed everything about it. I also read and analyzed the Oddessy. Good book, weird ending."

"Ok, that's nice but what is this place." Adam asked. "Like what exact do yiu guys do here?"

"Adam, enough. It's simple we train, live, fight and survive against the forces of evil." I sighed. Grabbing a plate off of a tray wisking by, I smiled and began eating a double cheeseburger with a side of fries.

After eating everything, we all went out to the ampitheater. I galnced back at Markus every now and then to see if he had heeded my warning to call Chiron. When we finally made it to our seats, the crowd rustled and chatted. It let Adam in on everything the valley had to offer and even promised him that I'd personally teach him how to control his ability to summon fire.

In a spark of fire, Markus called for attention. He gazed at all of us with a hard stare until, the oracel came out.

"Everyone, as you all know this is our oracle, Allison." Markus announced. "She has a special announcement, please give her you up most attention."

With the taming of the crowd, Allison began to speak.

Notes

NOTES.

Adam is related to Liz. The Mural crown was obtained and now the oracle seems to have a message. The action is about to begin, things will likely get scary and adventurous soon.
