The Daughters of the Big Three
Chapter Ten
“I don’t know why he kept it a secret,” Drea says at the bonfire that night.
“Kris? You know him?” I ask.
“Yeah, I came to camp with him,” She says.
“How’d you come to meet him?”
Drea takes a deep breath. “I knew that Kris was a son of Kronos the whole time.”
“Really? How did you know?” Accailia asks.
Drea is hesitant, “I think it’s time to share a story that I have never shared with anyone,” She exhales. “I was supposed to die a very long time ago.”
“What do you mean by that?” I wonder. This mythology crap is getting weird.
“Kris time travelled to meet me. In other words, I wasn’t born fourteen years ago. I was going to die when my mother and I took a trip to Hawaii. December sixth 1941 a boy appeared before me and told me I was going to die the next day. He told me he had met my father. So of course, being ten years old I had always wanted to meet my dad so I followed him. He brought me here to camp and then vanished.”
“December 1941…1941,” I think trying to remember what happened on that date. I snap my fingers, “Pearl Harbor!”
Drea nods. Accailia’s voice is a whisper, “So your mom…”
“Yeah. She died.”
We sit in silence until Chiron begins the announcements. He tells the camp about how we will be going on a quest tomorrow and the details about the rift. Then we head to our cabins for the night.
I walk into cabin three and sit down on my bunk. I get out my drawing journal and doodle a picture of the rift on the tree. I hear footsteps and Percy walks in.
“You ready for a quest?” Percy asks.
“Um… Honestly… No,” I say. Percy laughs.
“Yeah, I was not prepared for my first quest either.”
“How many quests have you been on?” I ask.
“Too many,” He says sitting down. “I’ll tell you all about them when you get back.”
“Okay, yeah… If I come back.”
“Don’t think like that.”
“You’re right. I’ll be looking forward to those stories.”
“Goodnight, Elaina.”
“Goodnight.”
