The Daughters of the Big Three

Chapter Eleven

In the morning Accailia, Zac, Drea, Jace, and I meet by Thalia’s pine tree. We each carry a backpack which contains: an extra change of clothes, drachmas, dollars bills, canteens of water, and some food. We all bring our weapons. Accailia with her daggers, Zac with his dragon tooth sword, Drea with her knife, Jace with his bow and arrows (which he uses the Mist to make it appear to be an umbrella), and I carry Delta.
Once we make it to the tree Jace steps forward and runs a finger down the rift. It begins to glow. He takes a few steps back.
“I have to go last,” Jace says. “It will close again once I’m through.”
“Okay. I’ll go first,” I take a step forward.
“Just keep walking. Don’t stop walking until the light fades and you can see your surroundings clearly.”
I nod and start walking toward the tree. My vision gets blurry as the light grows brighter. I start to hear a ringing as I’m now surrounded by white. My feet seem to grow heavy as I keep pushing. Part of me wants to stop moving but I keep pushing. Then the light starts to dim and the ringing in my ear fades out. My vision clears and I stand on a hill. There is no Camp Half-Blood before me. But in the distance I see a large building on a distant hill.
I stop walking and turn to watch the others follow me through. They each step out, one by one. Finally, Jace steps through, the least disoriented of all of us.
“Now what?” Accailia asks. Everyone turns to me expectantly.
“Well, I’m guessing that there are other rifts,” I say.
“Others? Yeah, there probably is,” Zac says.
“Are we in your world?” Drea asks.
“Yes, I would take you three to Demigod Manor but they might not let us leave.”
“How come?” I ask.
“Let’s just say they are very tight on security,” Zac frowns.
“Okay then. Let’s go this way then.”
We walk through a forest and I see another rift on a rock. Jace walks up to it and places a hand on it.
“It hasn’t been opened for a few weeks,” He says.
“How can you tell?” Accailia asks.
Jace shrugs, “I just can.”
We eventually get a ride to the mainland of New York. Then we hear a noise. A high pitch screech runs through the air. It’s definitely not human. And I’ve never heard of an animal that makes that noise. I bring out Delta and everyone else pulls out their weapons. Then I hear it coming as birds scatter.
“You know what I just realized?” My voice is only slightly louder than a whisper. “Four demigods of the big three are a very big monster magnet.”
“Oh, right,” Zac says.
We then come face to face with a large dragon-like creature. Actually, I’m pretty sure it is a dragon until Drea and Zac whisper “Drakon,” simultaneously which causes a shudder to go through me.
Honestly, I don’t remember all that happens next (You’ll find out why later). But Jace explains to me later that we killed it. It took Accailia to fly up, which I didn’t know she could do, and stab it in the neck. This is all coming from Jace, by the way.
Apparently next we walked and found a place to crash for the night. I remember most things from here.
The next morning we continued to look for some sort of trail that Kris may have left. None of us besides Jace knew what we were doing. We just kept scanning trees for an odd looking crack. That’s when Accailia spotted one.
“There!” she points at a tree. We all run up to it and Jace places a hand on it.
“It’s fresh,” he says, he turns to me, “Shall we?” I nod and he traces a finger down it. We walk through the rift and Jace announces that we are back in our world. Here it is late at night. I take out some sandwiches and we eat before bed.
When I’m finished I lean against a tree and look up at the stars then back at my friends. I listen to Zac and Accailia’s conversation when I realize something.
Jace scoots next to me, “Have you noticed it too?”
“Like how they… she… I can’t put my finger on it.”
“They’re alarmingly similar. And we’re from an alternate universe from yours.”
“Oh my gods!” I say fully realizing. “They’re each other, from parallel worlds!”
Jace smiles nodding, “There are slight differences, but overall…”
“Wow,” I whisper. “Oh! And there’s a girl name Jocelyn who’s a daughter of Hecate at camp!”
“And there’s a boy named Drake, who is a son of Hades, in my world.”
“Is there a son of Poseidon, too?” I ask.
Jace looks down and takes a deep breath, “There used to be a son of Poseidon. He was a lot like you. His name was Eric. A few months ago, he went on a quest with one of my sisters. And… they never came home.”
