The Daughters of the Big Three

Chapter Six

I officially hate being a demigod.

I see myself running along with four other kids. It seems to be dark out in the dream. I can’t tell who they are or where we’re going but we’re running very fast. Suddenly one of them trips, the others don’t see. I see some sort of monster reach the one who tripped and swallow them whole. I hear a bloodcurdling scream as one of the kids- me –turns around and stops. One of the other kids tries to pull me forward, but I am motionless, staring at the monster. The ground starts to shake and thunder claps. This has to be a dream. I tell myself, the one watching this, to wake up.

I sit upright in my bed. Percy has been woken up and I see him standing. I’m almost hyperventilating. I don’t have dreams often. And I have never had one this bad.
“Nightmare?” Percy asks sitting on the end of my bed. I nod. “Demigods just have the worst nightmares. The scariest part is that sometimes they’re true. Maybe it happens in the future, or it’s happening right now. I usually have ones where I’m seeing some enemies planning stuff, or my friends. Other people have told me about ones that happen later. But they’re not always that bad. Do you want to talk about it?”
I tell him every last detail once I calm down. He listens which helps and once I finish sighs, “That doesn’t sound good. At all. I don’t know exactly what you should do but, you might have a quest coming up. I don’t know, it’s late. I’d talk to Chiron in the morning,” Percy stands up, “Get some sleep,” I nod and he moves back to his bunk and switches off his light.
I take a deep breath and lay back down. And I get no more sleep the rest of the night.

The next morning I tell Chiron about my dream. He tells me I’ll just have to be careful, and that it might not happen. The person who was killed may or may not die in that situation. You just never know with fate.

The next few days are pretty normal-or at least as normal as life can get for a demigod. I meet some more people and I learn who not to hang around and that all the Athena kids are practically identical. I also find out that Percy has a girlfriend, Annabeth, a daughter of Athena.
I mainly hang out with Accailia and Drea. I learn that Accailia has been at camp for about a year, and Drea has been there for four.
“Do you guys ever leave?” I ask.
“Sometimes, not often,” Drea says. “Kids of the big three are huge monster magnets. All demigods are, but they think they can get a bigger fight out of us.”
“Yeah,” Accailia nods. “I was going to go back home and go to school last year but I attracted too many monsters. My step-dad hates me. So he made me come back here.”
“So, have you ever gone on any quests?” I ask.
“Nope.”
“Nuh-uh.”
“Do ever want to?”
“Hmm. Well, I guess it would be cool,” Drea says. “I don’t think you should be going anywhere until you’re more experienced.”
“Not like I want to get killed,” It suddenly occurs to me that I never told them about my dream. I tell them all the details and they listen intently.
“That’s…” Accailia begins.
“Awful,” Drea finishes for her.
“Yeah,” Accailia clears her throat. “Um, honestly, I’m just hoping that’s not going to be me.”
“Chiron told me that it might not happen. We could get in the situation, but the person might not die.”
“We can hope,” Drea says. “But that’s the kind of thing that kills demigods.”
“Right.” Accailia says. I nod in agreement. We take a walk up to one of the hills, the one with the pine tree, and Drea and Accailia tell me the story about one of Accailia’s siblings, a girl named Thalia.
“She’s a Hunter of Artemis now,” Drea says. “I almost considered joining them. But I decided against it.”
“How come?” I ask.
“Reasons,” She says looking away. I nod and walk up to the pine tree.
Something seems off as I get close. The air gets colder and everything gets fuzzier. I see a small shimmering crack on the tree.
“Do you guys see this?” I say.
“What the Hades is that?” Drea asks walking up next to me.
The light grows brighter and the crack starts growing larger down the tree. I pull up Delta and watch as the light gets brighter. We take a few steps back and then it bursts.
I watch as two figures are thrown out of the tree and crash into us.
