Kronos Bluffs

Charlie's POV

Waking up had been the hardest part. I had tried to warn them, but we landed so soon, I had just finished my dream when I woke up to the ship crashing onto the banks of the Long Island Sound.

We were home.

Like a person high on bath salts, I ran around the ship, trying to find my three shipmates. They had to be alive.

“Please, Hephaestus, let them be alive!” I shouted, even thought I could barely hear myself over my heart beating in my ears.

“Percy?” I shouted, and, thank the Gods, he responded,

“What’s up? Whoa,” he said when he saw me, “Beckendorf, you look like you’ve seen a ghost. What’s wrong?”

I told him about my dream, and his worry lines deepened.

“That would scare the Styx out of me, dude. Take a deep breath. We’re all alive, as far as I can tell. Leo and Calypso are making out in Leo’s room, and I’m getting the rope ladder to get off the ship. I’ve spent enough time on the Argo II.”

I thought about my dream, and I realized that if all four of us were still alive, why would Kronos, assuming Kronos was the one who sent me that dream, send me a vision of the number three? It wasn’t just to scare the crap out of me. Just then, a thought occurred to me, but Percy interrupted my train of thought by saying,

“I gotta go set this up.”

He motioned to a pile of rope in his hand that looked like ladder rungs, and then my brain did a double-take on what he had said earlier.

“You’re not jealous or anything? Them kissing and all that?” I asked, my heart returning to normal, and my wits finding me again.

“Not funny, dude. Besides, last time you were on a ship, it didn’t end well. I was proud of you for getting on this one, by the way. No go see your girlfriend.”

“Sir, yes, sir,” I grinned back.

But I couldn’t just get off the ship before the captain. So, even though I felt like one of those prom night chaperones, I sulked over and knocked on Leo’s door. I heard some…specific noises coming out of the room, but after a couple seconds, Leo said,

“What’s up, hombre?” He asked.

“We’re here, dude. Thought you might want to show your girlfriend around Camp.”

“No problem,” he responded, and then the door opened.

Leo Valdez looked like he had stormed a lady’s locker room, and they didn’t mind the intruder. He had light-colored lipstick on cheek, his shirt and hair were messed-up, and he had a wild look in eyes, topped off with a crazy grin. Then I noticed the body in his arms.

“Uh, hi,” I greeted Calypso, as she giggled in Leo’s arms. He set her down and they took each other’s hands as they climbed down the rope ladder. That’s when I heard the screaming.
Percy had gotten his bag from his cabin, and had walked onto the main deck. As soon as that had happened, and his black hair had been illuminated by the torches, Silena’s voice screamed out,

“NO!”

As soon as I heard that, Percy and I picked up our bags and sprinted down the rope ladder, climbing faster than we had ever climbed before. On the ground in front of me, I saw a horror scene. Annabeth was standing, barely, and bleeding from her chin, which she was rubbing tenderly. A couple feet from her, Silena was lying unconscious, jerking back and forth like she was having a seizure.

And everyone who had woken up to see us return was just watching her.

“Do something!” I boomed, which caused everyone to jump.

I jumped down after Percy and ran to Silena, dropping my bags and picking her up, sprinting towards the Infirmary. Seriously, I needed to avoid that place.

Once we got there and wok up the Apollo medic on the graveyard shift, we got Silena comfortable in one of the beds. Also, side note, do the seriously have to call it the graveyard shift? Seems like an omen, doesn’t it?

My body was still coursing with adrenaline, and I wanted to do something to help, but Clarisse held me back, which surprised me. Also, why was Clarisse in the Infirmary, watching over Ethan, sitting next to Tommy Doyle, of all people?

“You can’t do anything, kid,” she said gruffly, “just calm down and breathe, it’ll be okay. You’re in for a long night.”

“That’s the last thing I need,” I said glumly. Then, I remembered Annabeth, and I started sprinting for the door. Then I remembered Clarisse and Tommy.

“Back in a few,” I breathed as I rushed out the door.

I ran towards them, as Percy was bringing her to the Infirmary, and Annabeth was refusing to be treated.

“Guys, what in Hades happened?” I asked, and they responded in unison.

“Silena—” They caught themselves, and Annabeth looked at Percy murderously.

“Silena was experiencing some mildly delusional feelings,” Annabeth explained, “so answer this honestly. Did you have a dream with the number three?”

“Yes, but why?”

“She had the same dream,” Annabeth continued, “an it started to drive her mad. She was raving when the conch horn sounded to signal you guys. I tried to calm her down, and…”

She gestured to the nasty cut on her chin, which Percy was dressing with supplies from his bag.

“Are you okay?” He asked, and Annabeth responded,

“Yes, Percy, I’m fine! You’ve already asked me—”

But he silenced her with a kiss. Both their eyes were closed.

“Good, because I couldn’t bear it if you weren’t,” Percy responded.

“I love you, Seaweed Brain,” Annabeth said sweetly.

Seeing them reminded me of what was in my pocket, and soon to be in my secret locker in Cabin 9. But it also reminded me that I couldn’t reveal it yet. I needed to take care of Silena, just as Percy was taking care of Annabeth.

“Do you mind…” I said, gesturing towards the Infirmary.

“Oh, please,” Annabeth said, “don’t worry about us.”

So, I sprinted back to the Infirmary, and was greeted by Clarisse.

“She’s awake,” she said in a voice that wasn’t a grunt. That surprised me, because the daughter of Ares didn’t even know English. She just knew Grunt.

I walked in, and Silena’s eyes, beautiful blue like sapphires, sparkled up at me.

“Hey,” I said, my throat constricting. Seeing her in a hospital bed was emotional, okay?

“Hey,” she said, her eyes twinkling some more, “you’re alive.”

“Yeah,” I said, “and you punched Annabeth.”

“Ooh,” she winced, “was hoping you wouldn’t noticed that.”

“So you went crazy when you thought I wasn’t coming back, eh?”

“I’m crazy in love, what can I say?” She responded, laughing.

I walked over to her and kissed her, once on the lips and once on the forehead.

“It’s so good to see you again,” I said, “I missed you.”

“Get a room,” said a bright, new voice. I turned around to see Alex, her red hair violently bright in the torchlight.

“Why are you up?” I asked, “it’s like, midnight.”

Then, I looked at my watch, and it read 1:30 in the morning.

“Okay, a little past midnight…Alex, you’re a genius!”

“I didn’t even say anything!” she said, amazed. But she hadn’t needed to say anything. All she had done was make me look at my watch.

I walked out of the Infirmary door and sprinted towards Cabin 9. Leo should already be there. By the time I was halfway to the cabin, I shouted,

“Leo! What time did we leave Ogygia?”

“What?” a muffled Leo responded, walking out Cabin 9 once he had seen me through the window.

“What time, man!” I boomed.

“Like, 10:30, why?”

“Yes!” I screamed, falling to my knees, “thank the Gods, yes! Silena, he was bluffing! Silena!”
10:30 to 1:30. Three hours. Three. THREE!

I sprinted back towards the Infirmary, yelling, “He was bluffing, Silena, he was bluffing!” over and over again, until I reached the door, when Clarisse stormed out and shushed me louder than I have ever been shushed before.

“She’s asleep again!” she whispered, “this can wait ‘til morning, am I right?”

“Yeah,” I said, still happier than I had been since I had gotten my memories back, “yeah, I guess it could. Time for bed.”

And with that, I slumped back to Cabin 9, and got the best, blissfully dreamless, I might add, night of sleep I had had in weeks.

Notes

Seeing as I wrote this in twenty minutes, this chapter will be as hectic as the actions and emotions that are going on in it.

Enjoy!
