Silena's POV

It had been a while since I had even talked to my boyfriend. At this point, I didn’t care how many days he had left on Earth, I needed to be with him. It was the 30th of August for Gods’ sake.

So, I took off towards Cabin 9, but before I even got there, Charlie intercepted.

“Silena!” He called, looking nervous, “Hey, how’s it going?”

I ran up to him and hugged him tight. I felt myself growing weak, ready to cry, and he released me, looking me in the eyes.

“Hey,” He said, “everything’s going to be fine, okay?”

“Yeah,” I said, trying not to sniffle, “yeah.”

He still looked nervous, and I asked, “Is something wrong?”

“No,” He said, trying to look calm, “No, I’m fine. Just a bit worried about this plan, you know?”

“Everything’s going to be alright, remember?” I asked, trying for a smile.

“Yeah, I know,” He said, deep in thought, “it’s just that I’m not worried about Ethan anymore. Tommy got Ethan to prove himself. I’m worried that I’m gonna screw up. It’ll be just like last time.”

“No!” I screamed, “You can’t say that! It’s not fair to either of us!”

He looked ashamed, and looked down at his shoes.

“Sorry,” He mumbled, “I didn’t mean that. I’m just worried.”

I reached my hand behind his ear, and tilted hi head up to look at me, pulling him into a kiss.

“Don’t be,” I said, and he smiled.

“I love you so much.”

“I know you do,” I sighed, “and that’s why we gotta get through this, okay?”

“Yeah,” He said, and he suddenly looked like he was rapidly considering a decision that he wanted to make. He reached his hand into his pocket, and played with something in his welding pants. But then, the look subsided, and he looked back up at me.

“Thinking about weapons?” I guessed, “You know you have Fulcrum, right?”

“Uh…what?” He asked, then said, “Oh, yeah, right. It’s right here.”

He reached into his other pocket and pulled out a Leatherman multi-tool. I reached my hand out, and he spilled the metal into my hand. I opened it up to a full split, and it turned into the 25-pound war hammer.

“See?” I said, “Just slap Luke around with this, eh? The adrenaline from you wailing on him will get your anger all fired up. Then, all you have to do is make Luke see what he most fears.”

“Yeah,” He said, warming up to the idea, “Hey, that’s a good idea!”

He kissed me quickly and took the hammer back, turning it into the multi-tool.

“Now, all I need to think about is what Luke fears most.”

“Yeah,” I said, “But before that, could we just relax, like, a tiny bit?”

He looked pained, like an athlete who wanted to keep running, but his coach wouldn’t let him because of an injury. Then, he looked into my pleading eyes, and his expression softened.

“Sure,” He said, smiling, “Where do you want to go?”

“Do you have any of our old pictures?” I asked, “I have mine in Cabin 10, if you want to just reminisce.”

“Really?” He asked, “I might die soon, Kronos is banking on me failing, and you want to reminisce?”

“Why not?” I said, “I mean, what are we supposed to do, something really romantic? Charlie, I’ve been too busy worrying about you to plan anything romantic, okay?”

Charlie took me in his arms and kissed me again, saying, “Silena, you are always romantic.”

I giggled, and Charlie picked me up and carried me to Cabin 10.

“Get your stuff, I’ll see what I can find.”

Five minutes later, Charlie and I met on the edge of the forest, with no one remotely close to us. I was sitting cross-legged against a tree with a pillow on my back that I grabbed off of Drew Tanaka’s bed, and I stole her spare for Charlie. She was a slut, and a drama queen, and I felt good doing pretty much anything to tick her off. I had also been informed by Piper of how she felt about me.

“Hey,” I smiled, and patted the ground next to me. Charlie made a sound that was a mixture of a groan and a laugh as he sat, and I asked,

“Are you hurt?”

“Nah,” He laughed, “just sore from the Forges. I’ve been working a lot lately.”

“Really?” I asked, not sure what he would be working on, “Making Fulcrum sharper, or…what?”

“Yeah,” He said, like he was scrambling for an answer, “Just honing Fulcrum, adding more weight for more power, making the time it takes to fold it up quicker.”

“Okay,” I said, not convinced at all. He was definitely not working on Fulcrum.

After that, he produced almost all of our old pictures. There were photo booth sets, Polaroid shots, and even a few crude drawings which I had never seen before.

“Wow,” I marveled, “Where did you find all these?”

He launched into a story about how all the photos had been on Leo’s bed, seeing as Leo had taken his bed after he had died the first time. Then, when he had had trouble remembering me, he had seen those pictures and had a eureka moment. I thought that it was very sweet that he remembered me through our old pictures. I kissed him when he was done, and he smiled. Then, it all ended. The moment, at least.

“Beckendorf!” I heard a voice call, maybe Lou Ellen’s high, sweet voice, “We need you in the Infirmary! Ethan’s ready!”

I hadn’t noticed it, but it was already getting dark. It was getting darker earlier, but it was almost September, of course. I realized that with this deadline of the end of August, I hadn’t even fathomed the fact that the month was about to end.

Even if we died, or survived, time would keep moving forward. I could see how Kronos could be so evil. He didn’t even have to do anything. The primordial force of time moving forward would do his dirty work for him.

Charlie stood up and kissed me quickly one more time, saying,

“I gotta go. I’m sorry.”

“No, you aren’t,” I said, realizing what this moment was for us, “If you’re leaving me now, those can’t be your last words to me.”

“Fine,” He said, conceding the point, “How about these words? I love you, Silena. I always will, in Tartarus or Elysium or Asphodel or Earth or Olympus. I will always love you.”

I kissed him, and he kissed me back, and for that moment, nothing else existed but the ground below us, the sky above us, and our two bodies. Then, he ran towards the Infirmary.

Notes

Here, Echo. I have a part 2 to this that I need to write, so I'll at least do that before I go to sleep. I'm really sad that this story is wrapping up soon, but I have some really fun chapters to write, so, yeah.

Enjoy,
Grafon
