The Muse Search

Chapter 6
We traveled for about a week, alternating from walking to hitchhiking. Raion wasn’t a problem getting people to give us a ride; he actually went back to Tartarus. I can call him from there anytime. It’s another one of my weird powers; I can open a hole from anywhere into my dad. (Not in a gay or insestual way. {And there is nothing wrong being gay, I’m just not.}) We ended up somewhere near Lake Pontchartrain, just south of Covington, Louisiana. “Thanks for the ride.” I said to the trucker that dropped us off. “No problem, kids.” he said with a thick, redneck accent and then, drove off. “We should probably head to town and restock on supplies.” I suggested. “Yah, I think that would be best.” Sakura added. “Let’s get going then.” McKenzie urged.

We walked the road for about twenty minutes until we made it into town. We went to a Wal-Mart and bought some food and new clothes. We needed new clothes because our old ones were all torn up from monster attacks. I got a simple red T-shirt and black shorts. (Ninja style, but not really) McKenzie got a yellow tank top with blue jeans. And Sakura bought a green T-shirt and a pair of dark brown jeans. Her clothes matched her hair and eyes perfectly. I found myself staring a little too long and looked away. I had a slight blush on my face. I had always had a crush on Sakura, ever sense fourth grade, but I’ve kept to myself about it, because I was afraid of messing up our friendship. Sakura noticed me and asked, “Are you feeling alright? Your face is red.” Yah, I’m alright, just feeling a little hot is all.” I lied, hoping she would just drop it. “Alright then.” she said. I was relieved to have dodged that bullet. “Let’s get back to our quest.” McKenzie said. So we headed out of Wal-Mart and started going west.

On our way west we ended up walking next to the Pontchartrain Lake. Then, we were attacked by some weird birds. They scraped my face, Sakura’s right shoulder and McKenzie’s left. “Ow, what on Gaea was that?” I said with one eye closed. “Up there.” Sakura said pointing up into the sky.” I saw three crane looking birds flying around above us. “I take it that they’re not normal birds, are they?” I asked. “No, I’m pretty sure that they’re the stymphalian Birds.” Sakura said. “They have beaks that can pierce through iron and bronze.” she added. “Well that’s just great.” I said. “Joshua, your eye.” McKenzie said noticing that my right eye was cut and bleeding. “I’ll be fine, but we have to find a way to stop these birds.” I said. “How were they defeated in accent times?” I asked. “By Hercules drawing them out of there trees with special krotala from Athena and sniping them down with a bow.” McKenzie answered. “Well that’s out of the question,” I said “because I don’t think Athena will be helping us any time soon.” “Why not?” Sakura asked. “Just trust me on that.” I answered. “Wait, I remember reading somewhere that if we used cork, we could get them stuck in it.” I said. “But where are we going to find enough cork to catch them?” Sakura asked. I looked down the shore and noticed there was a small canoe about fifty feet down shore. “There, maybe.” I said pointing to the boat.

“Hey, birds, come and get me!” I shouted at them, while running to the boat hoping it was a cork boat. They tried dive bombing me, they got a couple of good hits on me but I still kept running. When I got to the boat, I flipped it over myself and hid under it. I heard three hits from the other side. After I crawled out from under the boat, I noticed that the three birds had their beaks stuck in the hull of the boat. “That was lucky.” I said. Then, Sakura and McKenzie came running up to me. “What were you thinking?” Sakura shouted. “I was thinking that I could trap them with a cork boat.” I said. “What?” she asked. “It’s a boat made out of cork wood. They are rare to see though, so we got lucky finding one here.” I said. “Did you even know that boat was made out of cork?” she asked. “Nope, just took a chance, and it worked.” I said. “That was a big risk,” she said, “you would have ended up bird food if that didn’t work.” she said. “Well, it worked, so no need to freak out over it.” I said. “Still, you scared me, don’t do that again.” she said. “Sorry, I promise that I’ll never do something that crazy again.” I said. “Good. Now, let’s fix up your eye then move out.” she said. “Autobots, roll out.” I said. McKenzie and Sakura just facepalmed and sighed.

Notes

So, Joshua has a crush on Sakura, will that come into affect later. Most likely because I'm making note of it twice, but you'll have to see for yourself,
