The Muse Search

Chapter 7
A scar had formed from the bird attack. We hitchhiked all the way to near the Texas-Nevada border. We were walking along until we ran into a problem, a woman with the bottom half of a snake. “Hello, little mice.” she said. “Guys, don’t look into her eyes, she’s a gorgon.” Sakura said covering her eyes. McKenzie did what Sakura said to do but I didn’t. Snake lady said, “Don’t be foolish little girl, I’m not a gorgon, I’m-“ “Echidna, mother of all monsters.” I finished. “Very perceptive, son of Tartarus.” Echidna said. “Why are you here?” I asked. “I’m here to stop you from finding the muses and to pay you back for making my son a weak little pussy.” she said. “Who?” Sakura asked. “Raion,” I said, “remember, she’s the mother of monsters.” “How do you know so much about her?” Sakura asked me. “Her stories are the ones I researched the most because I felt compelled to.” I answered. “Now it’s time for you to pay for what you did to him.” Echidna said. I felt the intent to kill behind those words. “Bring it.” I said while pulling out Omnia. Sakura pulled out her dagger and McKenzie pulled out her bow. “You all shall die.” Echidna said. I made the first move. I lunged toward Echidna at full speed. It caught her off guard slightly but she was able to recover and dodge my first slash. Then, Sakura came at her with her dagger and swung at Echidna, but she jumped back and evaded Sakura. Then, McKenzie shot at Echidna but she dodged all her arrows.

“Damn, we can’t land a hit on her.” I exclaimed. “I’ve dealt with baby monsters and your nothing compared to them.” Echidna said. “You won’t stop us.” I said. “Why do you care about the muses or the gods?” Echidna asked. “The gods don’t like you and want you dead, so why do you fight for them?” she added. “What is she talking about?” Sakura asked me. “You haven’t told them? Well allow me to fill them in.” Echidna said with a wicked smile on her face. “The gods want your friend dead before he could ever rise against them; that’s why you all are on this quest instead of that son of Poseidon.” she said. “What, that can’t be true.” McKenzie said. “She’s not lying, it’s true.” I said. “How do you know this?” she asked. “Remember when I figured out Tartarus was my dad, he also told me about this.” I answered. “Did you tell them who’s behind all of this?” Echidna said with that same smile. “No, he didn’t.” Sakura answered. “Well, the one who’s behind all of this is Chaos.” Echidna answered. “Just, shut up and leave!” I shouted. Then, I opened a rift into Tartarus and it sucked in Echidna. She went in laughing knowing she messed with our group.

“You knew, and didn’t tell us?” Sakura asked. “Yes, but I thought you would be too scared to continue or mad at the gods and turn on them.” I said in defense. “You should have more faith in us.” McKenzie said a bit pissed off. “I just did what I thought was best.” I said. “I can’t believe you wouldn’t trust us,” Sakura said hurt, “If you think you can carry the weight of knowing what’s waiting for us at the end, then you can face it on yourself.” “What?!” I said. “Yah, you can go finish the quest yourself.” she added. “But, we’re a team, you can’t just leave me.” I said. “Watch us.” she said. “McKenzie, you too?” I asked. She just crossed her arms and just walked away with Sakura. I just sat there until they were almost out of site. They never looked back.

“What’s this?” I asked as I looked down and noticed a small piece of paper with writing at my feet. “Once you are done with the demigods bring their dead bodies to the Kodak Theater in Hollywood to rub it in the muses’ faces.” I read aloud. “I guess I found were the muses are,” I said to myself, “better get going.”

Looks like Joshua is all alone now. Will he be able to find the muses in Hollywood and save them? Read on to find out.
