The Runner

“What are you talking about? This is insane! Camp Half-Blood can’t be…” Alyssa’s voice faded off, choked with tears.

“No, Deal is right. She wouldn’t lie to us, not about this.” Jasmine said, using the only nickname I wouldn’t smack her for.

“What can we do about it?” Chris asked, a frown creasing his forehead. “We’re halfway across the world, we can’t possibly get there in time to help!”

A smile tugged at my mouth, there’s no way I would’ve called a meeting without having thought this through. “Fortunately we have more than just the power of the winds at our disposal. The Athena twins have agreed to help us-”

“I didn’t agree to anything.” Lizzie grumbled from her seat in the corner.

“Of course you did, now hush and let her talk.” Jazz chided.

“-as has Kaia, on the condition that she has to be back by Monday for a job interview.” I finished.

Eyes strayed to Kaia and she shrugged. “I need the money.”

“This is brilliant and all, but how is it going to help us?” Jasmine asked.

I smiled. “The twins are going to be the brains of the operation, they know their way around so they’re going to guide us back home. As for Kaia, she’s going to be the designated driver.”

“I’m a little afraid to ask why we need one of those.” Alyssa said cautiously.

I pulled out the crudely drawn plans of adaptions to be made to the Moana’s car. “Because we’re going to fly home.” I said.
