The Runner
Freedom
The sunlight was filtering in a picturesque tumble of soft amber light through the net of tree boughs overhead as I sprinted through the undergrowth. I let out a whoop of energetic delight, throwing out my arms into the wind I created with the swift beating of my feet against the mulched undergrowth.
So this was what freedom felt like.
My hair trailed behind me in a dark banner and my fingers tried to catch the air. I had discarded my jacket as soon as the sun had begun to show its face and my camp shirt was slicked tight to my body by wind and sweat. My lungs heaved and my pulse raced but instead of exhausting me it just filled me with a wonderful kind of exhilaration.
I didn't know where I was running to.
I didn't care.
I was free.
Notes
This chapter is probably past the point of pathetically short but I'm a little short on inspiration today. I didn't have much time to write or think either since I've just gotten a dance floor installed in my room (that obviously needs to be thoroughly trialled) and an exchange student is coming to stay with us tomorrow from Japan!Busy and exciting times!
