Time's Daughter

An Old Friend

The three of us pulled up to a relatively nice house, in Central Phoenix. It seemed relatively normal. A basic suburbian house, with a manicured lawn and a second story. "Wow," I muttered. "Not what I expected."
Jason glanced at me. "What were you expecting?"
I burned red. "With the stories she told me about her mother," I admitted. "Something dark and creepy."
Percy laughed. "What kind of stories did Angel tell you dude?"
I didn't answer. The stories of Angel's torture were for her to share and her alone. It wasn't something I needed to tell them.
We walked to the door, each a little nervous. While Angel hadn't told them about her torture, everyone knew that her mother was just down right evil. The door bell rang with a tune. There was shouting for a moment then, a girl pulled open the door. She looked to be eighteen--fresh out of high school.
She had the same light brown hair and green eyes that Angel's other siblings had. "If you're selling we're not buying, if you're from a church, we don't care," she said tonelessly. "And if you're the cops, I will not repeat myself: I don't know anything about my sister!"
"You're Angel's sister?" I asked. "The youngest?"
She nodded. "I take it your friends of hers then," she said, opening the door a little wider for us. "I suppose you can come it--watch out though--Mother's not well today."
We glanced at each other then stepped over the threshold. It felt extremely uncomfortable in there. Everything was too clean.
The girl ushered us into a living room. "I'm Layla by the way," she said. "You are?"
We introduced ourselves awkwardly. I noticed a sort of emptiness in Layla's eyes. "You were close to Angel?" I asked.
She nodded. "Angel and I were best friends," she said. "Angel would do anything for me, and I for her. We loved each other that much."
"Sounds familiar," grinned Percy, elbowing me.
Layla stared at me. "Is it true?" she asked.
"Is what true?"
"Are you really Nico? The Nico?" Nico di Angelo?"
"How do you know who I am?" I asked glaring at her.
"Angel and I were best friends--you don't think we wouldn't keep in touch after she moved?"
I didn't relax. Usually if someone knew your name like that they turned out to be a monster. Layla smiled as the three of us each placed a hand on our swords.
"Relax, I am no monster," she said. "If you want to help Angel, I'm afraid I don't know how, but you are welcome to search her room."
Jason blinked. "You mean your mother hasn't destroyed her things yet?"
Layla laughed this time. "Angel is no idiot--she had her powers when she felt--only people she wants to enter can enter her room," she said. "Otherwise you just end up running into a wall."
"So how will we know if we can enter?" asked Percy.
"You be able to see a door," she said with sarcasm levels worthy of Percy.
She got up. "Come on I'll show you the way." She lead us up the stairs and onto the second floor. She pointed to a blank spot on the wall. "If she wants to be let in--the door will make itself apparent."
For a moment, nothing seemed to happen. Then the door slowly appeared, and clicked open. I couldn't help but grin. The door was covered with so many different things. Posters, picture, paintings, quotes, everything. And upon entrance to her room, her walls weren't much different. I honestly, had no idea how any of this would help, but Layla moved over to Angel's computer.
"Angel had a suspicion, this would happen and she sent me this video, hoping someone could care about her enough to help her." she said. "She's known for years she wouldn't be able to escape from this."
I stared at Layla. "Are you saying she knew about this all along?"
"Not exactly," she said. "Angel just had a gut feeling, and she tends to follow those."
I smiled. Yeah, gut feelings that have saved our lives a few times. Layla booted up the computer, and we were greeted with an old image of both Angel and Layla wearing overalls and standing knee deep in what looked like paint. Layla was laughing as Angel looked like she was dancing like a total dork. I smiled.
I really missed her. Layla opened her files and opened an old videos--one from three years ago--when she first moved to New York.

Notes

aaaaaaaand CUT! wait this isn't a movie--darn--it'd be cooler as a movie. Anyway--the video is going to be told from a new perspective--so that is what the next chapter will be! Enjoy!
