Time's Daughter

Insanity

I gasp. As it turns out I do not like shadow travel. I'd experienced many things in my life, but that--that was new. My face was pale and I was sweating heavily. "Never again," I said through shuttering gasps.
Nico chuckled slightly. "There aren't a lot of people who can handle shadow travel, I'm not surprised that you can't."
I raised an eyebrow and turned to my front door. There was a stereo playing through the door, the bass booming. That's strange, that's not really Kimmi's style.
"Hey!" I turn to see my landlord running up to me. "You've been playing your music too loud all morning! Turn it down!"
I nod, but it was too strange. No one has been home all morning. Kimmi has a class really early--she'd called me from the school this morning. I turn to put my key in the lock only to find the familiar scratches of someone picking the lock. A slight touch pushes the door open.
Nico and I fall silent. I pull my revolver out of my purse. Slowly we walk into the apartment. I walk over to the blaring stereo and shut it off. We looked around the place, it was a mess but nothing had been taken.
"It looks like they were looking for something," said Nico, shifting some papers that had been thrown off the desk. "Do you know anyone who would do this?"
I did, but didn't say. "Stay here!" I snap, storming to my bed room. It had the worst mess. All my sketches are on the floor. Including today's daily sketch assignment: draw something that would affect your life severely. I had drawn Kimmi, Aaron, and even Kayla, dead, and strung up to get at me. I may not get along with Kayla that well, but she was my sister, and I still loved her.
I bolt to my closet, where I keep and old and dangerous painted. It was a cursed painting, that was rumored to have killed all of its previous owners. I was the only person who had managed to survive with it in my possession. And I keep it hidden behind the wall, only accessible through a hidden switch.
I open it--the painting is gone, only a note remains. Just a big letter 'M'. I growl and scream in anger.
"MARCUS!" I scream. "I WILL KILL YOU!"
I rush past Nico, who was looking at me worriedly, and out the door. My landlord tried to stop me. He wanted rent. I anger had blinded me. I broke his wrist, twisting him out of my way. Nico starts to follow me, bewildered by my sudden change in emotion.
"Angel!" He called after me. "What's going on?!"
"Something that doesn't concern you!" I snap. "Go back to the land of the dead ghost boy!"
I open the door to the street, and am yanked back. Nico had grabbed my wrist, and pinned me to the wall in annoyance. He was stronger than he looked, and he glared at me, his brown eyes burning.
"Tell me what's going on," he said through his teeth. I tried to fight him off, but three years of running from my past had made me pathetically weak, and I guess being a demigod made him strong. I wanted to tell him. Honestly, I did. But I didn't want to put him in danger, not the danger of my world. He had enough danger.
I looked down at the ground. "Let go," I said quietly.
"No," he snapped. "Not until you tell me what's going on."
"I can't!" I snarl, pushing against him. "Now let me go!"
The fire in his eyes stopped burning. He looked sad for a moment, then he put his head down. "Angel," he whispered quietly. "I don't think I've ever fallen for anyone like this before, not this fast. But I do know that I have feelings for you, and I would give up my entire world to be with you." He looked at me, his eyes were like liquid melting my heart and cracking the shell around it. "I would die for you!"
He gave me one last look, and then let go, standing a few feet away with his head down. I stood unmovable for a moment. I wanted to run to him, but I was afraid. It was dangerous for people to get too close to me. Kimmi had barely made it three years, and that was only with underground help that she didn't know existed. With a choked sob, I spun on my heel and ran away from the man I was so desperately in love with.

I was too late. When I got to the school it was surrounded by police. I lingered off to the side, it wouldn't be a good idea for me to get too close to the cops, training my ears to figure what had happened.
"So we have a triple homicide, but do we have any suspects yet?" asked a cop.
"Not necessarily a suspect," replied one. "But there is one person with whom all three victims had contact with regularly."
"And who is this person?"
"The infamous Angel Rose Swan."
I cursed and turn to get out of there but ran straight into Jason Grace, falling to the ground and gathering attention.
"Sorry," said Jason.
"Shh!" I snap. "Don't gather attention to me!"
It was too late. "Hey are you okay there?" asked a cop, offering his hand.
I didn't move. My hair was currently hiding my face, but I wasn't sure it was such a good thing to move. Unfortunately, it was just as suspicious.
"Angel!" shouted a voice across the parking lot. Instinctively my head went up. It was Nico.
The cop backed up several feet his hand on his gun. "It's her!" Things went downhill from there.
I was surrounded, by police. My nose wrinkled. "I had nothing to do with this!" I snap. "I swear!"
"Have you seen your rap sheet?" asked a cop, voice dripping with doubt. "You're the prime suspect."
I growl, and strike, dropping instantly to the ground as gun shots rang, kicking out several feet. I ran out from the circle, towards Nico. He reached out for me, his face was whiter than the skeleton's in the Underworld palace, and he eyes were full of panic. I reached his hand just in time, one last gun shot rang through the air as we disappeared into the shadows.
We were in an upscale apartment, decorated black and silver. It must have been his, because I could see his touch in things. I looked around, a soft smile on my lips. "This is--" There was a thud. I turned just in time to see Nico slid down the wall, leaving a red trail on the wall. He'd been shot.
A scream escaped my lips. "Oh, gods," I cried. I was never the one that did the medical stuffs. I'd seen them do it several times. I knew they needed to take the bullet out and then sew it up, but how? I was so lost. "Oh gods help me!" I screamed at the air.
I heard a voice chuckle and for a moment agree to help and knowledge on how to help him, just sort of appeared in my mind. He was a demigod, he needed ambrosia and nectar. I ran to the kitchen, and pulled open the first drawer I saw. There was a bag of little brown squares, for a moment I doubted I had found the right thing, but the voice agreed.
I ran back to Nico, he was so pale, but at the moment he was still conscious. He smiled at me, his hand brushing my cheek. I proffered him one of the little brown squares. "Here," I told him. "Eat this, it should help."
He slowly nodded, chewing the food of the gods slowly. Color slowly returned to his face. His face hadn't left my cheek. He slowly dragged his thumb under my eyes wiping away tears I hadn't known had fallen.
I smiled at him. "You're okay now right?" I asked, my voice shaky.
He laughed. "As long as you're with me, I'll always be okay." He leaned forward as if to kiss me, but at that moment, pain racked my body and I fell into the vast recesses of my psyche.

It wasn't the old me standing before me as I expected, but a child. She looked afraid. "Help me," she pleaded. "He has me! I can barely manage to communicate with you like this!"
"Who are you?" I asked.
"I am Athaliah!" The child cried. "Please, he has me imprisoned! You must free me!"
"I-I don't understand! Who are you?"
The child offered the same watch from the other dreams. "This will explain everything!" she said, her voice fading. "Please take it! Before he blocks me again!"
Just before she faded, she threw it towards me. I caught it. It was smaller than I had though and was pure gold. I stared the face of the clock was different though. Instead of numbers, it just had a moving image of space. Strange. Power surged through the air and I was thrown backwards, back out to the real world, taking the pocket watch with me.

Notes

I'm veering off from the original story a bit here, but I'm also kind of combining the first three in to one whole massive story so....yeah
