Zoe's POV

I woke up in the middle of the night. I was too restless to sleep, so I got up and silently opened the door to the cabin.

I tiptoed to the beach and dived in the ocean for a swim. I sank to the bottom and did a backflip. My feet touched the seafloor and kicked something. I looked down and saw a small box, barely big enough to hold a marble. I picked it up and swam to the surface. I stepped up to the sand and found that I wasn't wet.

Box still in hand, I ran back to the cabin and hid the box under my pillow. I wouldn't tell anyone about it until I knew what was inside. But now I was starting to get tired, so I decided to open it in the morning.

Zia's POV

*earlier that night*

I was having a dream that I was running in the woods. Something was following me. It snarled and ran faster. I came to a pile of rocks that looked like a fist.

I start to climb it and stumbled halfway up, almost knocking me off. It grabbed my foot and pulled itself closer to me. I was able to kick free after a lot of pain and struggling. I ran to the top of the pile.

I turned quickly and saw the thing that was chasing me. It had a long, spike-ended tail and ran on all fours. Whatever the beast was, it was big. Not as big as the blue-skinned giant from before, but big enough to kill me. It was a couple feet away now. I screamed in desperation.

Then lightning flashed, like someone had sent it, and hit the monster's back. The creature snapped and tried to get at me one more time, but missed. The world dissolved and I woke in a cold sweat. I looked around and saw that there was no monster and I was in the comfort of a bed. Still on edge, I fell back asleep.
