Luna
Chapter 8- My Mom
The next day, Lou and I practiced. And the next, and the next. We had been practicing for about a week, when Lou said- "I think you're ready for Mist Forms."
I gaped at her, disbelieving. Lou has been practicing for seven years, and she's barely got the Mist Forms down. Now me, I've been at camp for a week or two, and she's asking me to make a Mist Form? "What? You're a quick learner." She said, rubbing my head affectionately. She's a good bit taller than me. "Wow. Really?" She nodded.
"Okay," She said, "First things first, imagine the animal you want in front of you. I'd recommend something small, like a rabbit." I concentrated hard, imagining, when I hear a loud gasp. I stop, open my eyes.
There, stands a tall, beautiful woman. She has jet black hair and bright, unnatural emerald eyes. She has strong features and sharp cheekbones. Lou says "M-Mom? I wasn't expecting you." Suddenly, it feels like I've been hit on the face with a frying pan. Mom. Hecate stood there, sizing me up. "So," She said, a hint of ice in her voice. "You're Luna." I nod quickly. "Yeah. It's really great to meet you, Hecate. Mom." I say, extending my hand for a shake. She just stares at my hand. I let it fall. Lou sees the awkwardness and says "Um.. we were just about to start Mist Forms! Luna is really talented." I blush.
"Oh, then. Is she really? The I assume you won't mind if I stay to watch." Hecate says. It seems like there's always ice in her voice.
Lou seems awkward "Um.. yeah. Sure."
Crap. I know that there's no way I can do this with her watching. With Lou, it's different. She already feels like a sister to me. "Okay, Luna. It's like the apple, just imagine it to every last detail." Lou says encouragingly. I close my eyes. I can feel myself blushing. I imagine a bunny, sitting there, it's little nose wiggling.
Nothing.
I must have stood there for ten minutes, when Lou Ellen finally comes over to me and taps me on the shoulder. I open my eyes. "Luna," She whispers, "I'm sorry. I got you into this mess by bragging about you. I guess it was too soon." I nod, silent. I turn to Hecate. She stares at me coldly. "Just as I thought." She says. "Lou, dear, how about you give it a try." I turn to Lou to see the colour draining out of her face. "Yeah, okay mom." She says, her voice shaky. She goes and stands in front of a tree, closing her eyes.
I know I've got to do something.
I imagine a large dog, standing in front of her. I keep my eyes open, finding it easier.
That's when something happens. I large dog, that is made out of mist, stands in front of Lou.
I turn to Hecate, to see her smiling. "Nice try, Luna." She says. "I'm impressed. As for you," She says, turning to look at Lou, "When I next see you, I hope I see a Mist Form."
The next day, it seems everyone is out and about. I see Jax, standing alone. "Hey, Jax!" I say, jogging towards him. "Luna!" He says happily.
"What's going on?" I ask.
"It's CTF today!"
I raise an eyebrow at him.
"Capture the flag." He explains.
"Capture the flag?"
"Yeah!"
