Later that night...
"They're starting to pick the teams soon. We'd better get over there." Jax says. I nod, and we start running over to the woods.
When we got there, the team-picking was about to begin. There was a large crowd, so Jax and I snuck through it. "Sorry- Sorry 'bout that, whoops. Sorry." We made it to the front, to see Chiron standing there. "Okay!" He said cheerfully, "The team captains are going to be... Hm.." He looked around. "Let's make this interesting! Ares cabin, and Demeter cabin are captains!" A handsome, innocent-looking boy, probably my age, walks up to Chiron. A gruff looking boy, probably a couple years older than me, walks up to Chiron.
It didn't take a scientist to guess which captain was from which cabin.
"Okay, everyone. Sort into cabin groups." Chiron says. Immediately, the crowd shuffles into 20 even lines. I look around for Lou Ellen. I see her at the farthest end of the lines. Of course. Hecate is cabin number 20, aka "The Freak Show Cabin", as the Ares cabin calls it.
I hope to Hecate we aren't picked by Ares.
I mean, we might. The Hecate cabin are powerful. And in the last week, Lou has been teaching me fighting magic.
I'm excited to finally get to use it.
Okay, that sounded creepy. Not what I meant.
Anyways, usually Hecate is picked first, even though before I came, there was only Lou.
The team that picks Hecate usually wins.
"Demeter picks first." Chiron says, after the coin toss.
The innocent looking boy walks over to his cabin-line. The whisper for a couple seconds, when-
"We pick the Hecate cabin." Lou and I walk over to the Demeter cabin and stand in their line.
Ten minutes later, and thankfully, I'm on the same team as Jax. I didn't want to have to fight him. The boy from Ares says "We pick Nike."
The two separate lines walk to different ends of the forest. Our line stops after a minute of walking. "Okay, everyone." The Demeter boy says. "I'm Hunter. I think that we should hide the flag up in that tree over there," He says, pointing to a tree, "We should have people posted around it, though well hidden. We can have a small, elite team look for the flag. Sound good?" Everyone nods. One of the Apollo kids takes his bow (with the flag tied to it) and shoots it up onto a tree. High. Hunter starts picking out people for the scouting team. Lou and I am on it. So are a few others.
Lou has a constant shield going around our team, so that if anyone sees us, they immediately forget it. We end up spiting up, and I'm all alone. I conjure up my own memory-shield. It's weak, though. I hear a rustling in the bushes. I can feel my shield get stronger. A Ares boy, the captain, pokes his head out from a bush. He looks confused. I can see why. My shield is probably confusing. I concentrate harder, trying to summon a Mist Form. A doberman. A doberman made out of mist appears, and immediately begins attacking the Ares boy.
He screams loudly and runs away. I made sure that the doberman didn't hurt him too bad.
I hear more rustling. My dog is at the ready.
Hunter steps out from the bushes. I let my shield fall. Hunter seems confused, which I understand, because it looks like I just appeared out of no-where. "Hey, you're from Hecate, aren't you?" He asks. I nod. "Mind if I fight with you? I've never seen with my own eyes what Hecate's can do."
"Okay." I say. He seems excited.
A Ares runs out from the bushes and launches his spear at us. I don't even have time to react, when there's a thick, vine wall in between me and the spear. "Thanks." I say. The wall goes down, and the Ares charges at us. My hand begins glowing, and I punch him in the face, sending him flying. Far. "What was that" He asks.
"Simple spell." I say.
