Behind the Shadows

The Boy With The Eyes. (Chapter One - Edited)

It is cake for breakfast today, it always is for sapphire. It was the great thing about camp. There was no parents to tell you no. However, there was a Luke and in a way it was just as bad. From Sapphires table she could see Luke frowning at her. If his expression could speak it would say "I know what you are eating and I do not approve" Sapphire had always been the rebellious type and Luke hated that part of her. She went back to eating her cake and made sure to show Luke how much she enjoyed it. The rest of her table ate such horrible healthy stuff for breakfast, like fruit and porridge. Sapphire smirks to herself. They could eat as healthy as they want but they still wouldn't beat her at basketball.

"Cake again, Saph?" A boy from the Hephaestus cabin asked. His name is Jake Mason. Everything about him screamed Hephaestus son except from his looks. He had bright green eyes, sun shine blonde hair and a cocky personality. Jake always seemed to be building things or making blueprints to build more stuff, which is a good thing it meant he was not always following her about. He had written a poem for Sapphire once trying to impress her. She had stuck to the Apollo cabin door for everyone to see. After that they didn't speak for a whole week. The quiet had been nice but with out Jake, Sapphire had found her days insufferably boring.

"Yup" She mumbled through a mouth full of cake. Jake laughed and stood there above her. He had a plate in his hand, which he kept tapping against his other hand. He thought for a moment and grabbed Sapphires arm pulling her up. She stumbled over the bench and steadied herself before she could turn to glare at Jake.
"Hey!" She grumbled. Sapphire grabbed her plate just in time as Jake dragged her through the tables of campers. No one even glanced their way. This was a usual occurrence in the morning.
"I want to go and check out the new guy!" Jake chimed as they made their way towards the infirmary.
"Why do I need to come?" Sapphire groaned. She got no reply because they were already at the infirmary door. She stopped dead causing Jake to bang his head on the door. Sapphire felt weird. Something told her not to go in there. It wasn't her guts telling her it was as though something was forcing to think against going inside. However, that something hadn't thought she would have Jake with her, who was about to tear her arm off is she didn't follow him in.
"What the hell was that about, Saph?" Jake whispered as they passed some beds with screaming injured campers. Sapphire cringed and turned her head as the passed someone with arrow stuck in their leg.
"I don't know I just felt odd" She shrugged. Jake wasn't even listening anyway, he just carried on dragging her along. He stopped at a bed which had Annabeth standing at the end of it with Chiron. Annabeth frowned at Jake and then smiled at Sapphire.
"What are you two doing here?" Chiron asked. Jake replied and started talking to Chiron. Sapphire turned her head to the boy on the bed. A cold feeling whooshed inside Sapphire. She had no idea why. There was nothing special about him. He had very dark hair just about as dark as her own. His eyes were Bright green and they were frowning at her.

"Hello" Sapphire spoke. Her voice was shaky. "I'm Sapphire Willow. W-welcome to camp"
"Hey, I'm Percy Jackson" He replied with ease and smiled. The pair of them stared at each other for a moment until -
"And I'm Jake" Jake joined in. His smile was huge. He just wanted information or maybe another person to boast about his inventions with. Sapphire rooted for the first one because Jake was such gossip. Sapphire watched Jake take in Percy's appearance. She waited for a reaction but got none. It must've just been just her who felt odd by this new guy. Jake and Percy spoke for what seemed like a long time. During that time Sapphire just stared while her mind whirled about with unease and confusion.

Notes

I'd like to thank those who managed to endure the original first chapter with it's awful grammar and punctuation. It was a mess!
