Behind the Shadows

Sapphire followed Chiron back to the big house. She didn't look back once, not wanting to see Luke. He had ripped a hole in her heart and she would never forgive him for what he had done and for what he was going to do. Sapphire tried to put him to the back of her mind as she trailed behind Chiron. She had other things to worry about. The broken look she had seen in Luke's eyes just wouldn't leave her alone and she hated him for that.
"It's all going to be okay Sapphire" Chiron reassured her as they reached the door that lead into the big house. Sapphire glanced at him frowning. He gave her a sympathetic look before he turned and pushed open the door. Chiron disappeared inside leaving Sapphire standing by the doorway looking like a lost puppy. She was considering running away and hiding.Hope that everything would disappear or go back to normal. That was a cowards way out though and Sapphire was not a coward. She took a deep breath and stepped into the house.
Chiron was now in his wheelchair form and was sitting behind his desk. He lifted his hand and gestured for her to sit on the chair opposite him. She obeyed.
Once sitting Chiron let out a loud sigh. Sapphire looked up at him. He was looking right at her as though he as trying to read her. She shifted under his gaze feeling uncomfortable.
"Do you know what happened back there Sapphire?" Chiron asked. She shook her head. Sapphire had no idea what had happened. One minute she was arguing with Luke getting ready to hit him and all of a sudden the water in the creek went crazy. What confused her the most is that Percy wasn't at camp so why had the water done that?
"What were you and Luke talking about?" Chiron next question came.
"We had a disagreement about something" Sapphire Answered. It was the truth but only half of it.
"How did it make you feel?"
"Angry,sad,shocked. The list goes on and on". Chiron rubbed his scruffy jaw with his hand looking deep in thought.
"This should've never happened" Chiron spoke quietly as though he was talking more to himself than her.
"What do you mean?" Sapphire quizzed feeling completely lost.
"I'm going to tell you something, but you must not let anyone know. At least not yet the gods are already on edge enough as it is" Chiron spoke in a very serious voice. It made Sapphire want to run to the nearest exit. Chiron took a deep breath.
"You're adopted" He muttered.
"Huh?" Sapphire sputtered. Her mouth wouldn't close. She already knew this. It's why she ran away with Luke. She had been told by her parents that she was adopted and that her real parent had died in childbirth and that she had a godly parent. This had been far too much for a child to take in so the next week her and Luke had hit the road. They both had needed to get away from parents.
"That came out wrong sorry" Chiron stuttered. He cleared his throat and continued. "I mean your godly parent is wrong and you have a mother who is alive"
"I was claimed by Apollo! He is my father" Sapphire pointed out. She was feeling annoyed. She was proud to be a daughter of Apollo.
"No Sapphire, He claimed you because he was asked to, From him doing this you were given powers that any child of Apollo would have. It meant you would be safe!"
"Safe from who?" Sapphire was trying to even her breathing. This day was just getting worse and worse.
"Zeus and Hades" Chiron replied. Sapphire took this in trying to make sense of it.
"I don't understand"
"You are truly a daughter of Poseidon". Sapphire froze. Her brain had stopped working and was beginning to burn again. She raised both hands to hold her hands as the pain got more worse.
"My Head!" She cried. Tears broke from her eyes. Through the pain she began to think. It hurt even more to think but she needed too. Everything was beginning to make sense. There had always been a pain or a stray thought telling her what to do every time she came close to doing something that a child of Poseidon would do. Like sword fighting. She was brilliant at it but something always told her to stick to a bow and arrow instead. Even going near water gave her headaches. This had been so that she would never find out who was truly her godly parent. It was like someone was pulling strings in her head making sure she stayed hidden.
"Sapphire I think you have known this all along" Chiron broke through her thoughts.
"I may of had a few passing thoughts but they always were dismissed instantly like it was forbidden to think like that" Sapphire muttered while rubbing her throbbing head.
"I've watched you with the other Apollo kids you don't look like them or act like them but you stick to what any child of Apollo would normally do like music and archery" Chiron stared into the distance deep in thought.
"You have your fathers eyes. Thats what gave you away when you first came to camp" Chiron spoke with a fond smile on his face. "And when Percy came to camp I knew instantly that i was right. Percy is your twin BROTHER"
"How do you know for sure that he is my twin?" Sapphire asked.
"There is a legend about twins of poseidon. A girl and a boy but since Zeus, Hades and Poseidon made that rule about them to never have children again. You had to be hidden one child can be dismissed and let to live but if they found out that poseidon had twins then there would be an uproar" Chiron was starting to make sense now. Sapphire's head whizzed with all this new information. The burning would not stop and it was making Sapphire want to scream.
"How do you know for sure that we are that set of twins" Sapphire asked.
"You're giving me the answer now" Chiron sighed and waved his hand towards her head which she was now holding tight scared it might break. "That pain you are feeling is Apollo at work trying to get you to dismiss this information"
"Why do i have to know all this anyway"
"If Percy is the hero in the prophecy then he is going to need all the help he can get. Now you know i need you to ignore all Apollo's work on you head do this and you will become as strong as Percy maybe even stronger since you also have gifts from Apollo" .
"Luke was right" Sapphire whispered to herself. The gods only cared about themselves and would do anything to keep trouble away.
"What?" Chiron asked. Sapphire shook her head and stood up.
"Nothing, I'm Going to go to my cabin and try to get rid of this pain in my head" Sapphire announced and left Chiron sitting there looking a bit lost.
