Behind the Shadows

There was whispering. A lot of whispering. Sapphire pried her eyes open from her peaceful sleep. She was in the Apollo cabin. She may be a child of Poseidon but she was still determined by Apollo. Sapphire sat up and looked around. Curious to know what the whispering was about. Every one of the other Apollo children were staring at her. She cleared her throat and stood up off the bed. Feeling the need to get out of the cabin as soon as possible. She grabbed a change of clothes and rushed out. The sun was shining high just like it always was. Sapphire carried on walking until she got to the toilet.
"Nice pajamas!" Clarisse said as she took a step in front of Sapphire stopping her in her path.
"Nice face" Sapphire shot back.
"Better than yours"
"Is that all you got? A bit lame." Sapphire smiled in an attempt to get on Clarisses nerves.
"I'm not here to insult you!" Clarisse spat. Sapphire stepped back shocked. Eyeing her was suspicion.
"I'm shocked. You have changed" Her voice comes out lacking in any enthusiasm.
"I can be nice" Sapphire stared, and stared. Waiting for Clarisse to rectify her statement. "Fine I can't. I just need to tell you something, then I will go back to insulting you"
"Okay." Sapphire draws out, crossing her arms. "What is it?"
"Luke tried to kill Percy" Sapphire stood there with her mouth a gap and eyebrows furrowed. Did she hear Clarisse right?
"Come again"
"Luke is the lightning thief!" Clarisse said it as though the thought of Luke being the lightning thief was delightful. "Apparently he told Percy before he tried to kill him"
"Where is Luke?" Sapphire asked. Already taking a step away from Clarisse. She was breathing fast feeling completely shocked.
"Gone. He had completely vanished by the time Percy told everyone about him being the lightning thief"
"Why are you telling me this?"Claisse smirked.
"I wanted to see your reaction so I decided I would be the first to tell you". Sapphire glared at Clarisse before storming passed her and going into the bathrooms to change. She heard Clarisse laugh and walk off.
Once Sapphire changed she went to go and get her breakfast. She wasn't hungry but she needed a distraction. Needed time to get over all these earth shaking announcements. First it was Luke confessing what he had done. Then it was Chiron telling her that she was Percy's twin and then it was Clarisse telling her that Luke had tried to kill Percy. All of it was beginning to take a toll on her. As she walked there everyone she passed stopped what they were doing just to stare. Clearly they were still shocked by her announcement last night. Or perhaps they knew about Luke as well.
The Dining Pavilion was not very busy. About twenty camper were dotted around the room chattering and eating food. Percy sat at his table poking at his food. Sapphire noticed that what he was eating was blue. She walked further in feeling slightly nervous. Silence fell over the room as everyone noticed her. Percy looked up and gave a slight smile and waved her over. Sapphire ignored the stares and whispers as she walked over to Percy.
"Do you always eat food blue?" Sapphire quizzed when she reached his table. Percy grinned.
"It reminds me of home" He replied. Sapphire smiled and sat down on the bench across from him. The rules of the tables didn't apply to her now. She didn't actually really care for the rules anymore.
"You ate blue food at home?" Sapphire asked.
"On special occasions my mom would always make the food blue" Percy replied with a fond smile on his lips.
"My mom made the best cookies on special occasions" Sapphire piped. She blinked shocked that she had just said that. She never spoke about the mom she was brought up by. They were the best parents and she still missed them, but finding out that she was adopted had shocked her too much. She ran away and always made sure not to look back. Why had she just told Percy that?
"She sounds great" Percy beamed. Was this boy always so happy?
"She was. Does it taste better blue?" Sapphire joked.
"Ten times better!|" He paused for a moment before looking Sapphire straight in the eyes. "I know Sapphire" Percy's face was now serious.
"Know what?"
"Chiron and everyone I came across told me that you are my sister"
"Oh, that.." Sapphire whispered. She looked down at the table.
"I think it's great!" Percy cheered. Sapphire frowned and looked up at him. He was clearly taking the news better than her.
"You do?"
"Of course! I've always wanted a sibling"
"Twin sibling" Sapphire stated.
"It's alot to take in huh?"
"Yes! I've been told that I'm adopted twice in my life"
"Well now you have a brother who by the way is awesome!" Sapphire half heartedly laughed.
"Clearly you are the more happy and positive twin!" Sapphire pointed. Not quite understanding why he was so cheerful after everything Luke had just put him through.
"Told you that I'm awesome" Percy said then laughed. His expression turned serious. "I'm sorry about Luke. I know you were best friends"
"I'm just so disappointed in him" Sapphire whispered. Her mood was turning sour.
"Everyone is, I'm just surprised at what he did to me. He made me look like I was the lightning thief and then tries to kill me. He had been such a good friend to me when I had first arrived at camp!"
"It won't end well for him" Sapphire announced.
"What do you mean?" Percy asked.
"I have a feeling that if he truly does turn on the gods then it just won't end well for him." Sapphire croaked as her voice broke.
"Maybe you can save him" Percy piped. Sapphire frowned.
"How would I do that?"
"You're his best friend. He will listen to you. Tell him not to do anything". Sapphire sighed. She had already spoken to Luke begging him to stop, but she could not tell Percy that. If she did Percy would know that Luke had told her everything before anyone knew.
"When he has his mind set on something then there is no stopping him. All we can do is brace ourselves for the worst". Sapphire stated. Percy nodded in agreement.
"People suck sometimes" Percy sighed.
"People suck all the time"
"You can't truely believe that. Don't worry Saphy bear your big old brother is a keeper" . Sapphire smiled.
"We are the same age you idiot".
"I'm taller"
"So that makes you older?"
"Yes!" Sapphire laughed. She had to admit Percy was good at making people feel better.
"Okay then".
"Want some blue food?"
"I'll pass, Percy I need to go anyway. I need to go to class"
"Class is off for the day. Chiron and Dionysus have gone off to some emergency meeting with the gods and all the campers are too upset from hearing about Luke"
"I will go and pack then. I'm moving in with you". Sapphire announced as she stood up from the table and smiled at Percy before she walked away.
"Don't steal my bed or touch my stuff!" Percy called after her.
