Darkness

Chapter Two

"Ember? Come on, get up!" I recognized Seth's voice as I came back to the world of the living. My eyes sprung open and I cringed as a pain throbbed through my skull.

Evan was next to me, a bruise on his forehead. He groaned and rubbed the bruise. I got up from the ground, wiping dirt off of me. Seth looked at me with wide eyes,

"Are you alright?" I nodded wearily, placing a hand to the back of my head. Through the hair, I felt a huge bump. It stung when I touched it. Evan stood, grass in his hair and glared at me,

"You left me!" I rolled my eyes at him, "We thought you would come with us." Seth giggled. Evan growled and stormed away. My face was streaked with dirt from where I fell, along with my hands. I gave Seth a look of, 'Evan's gonna die', then hurried to the bathrooms.

As I walked through Camp, I could see campers running about in their own world, none knowing that Erebus would probably kill all of us. Outside the bathroom, Clarisse was threatening a newbie. He was a small blonde, with frightful gray eyes.

I didn't cast them a second look as I hurried into the Ladies room. The smell hit me, and I recoiled, plugging my nose. Gods, when's the last time someone cleaned in here?

I made my way to the sink and pulled the handle, causing cold water to spray from the faucet. I plunged my hands in the icy water, scrubbing away the dirt. As I looked around for the soap, the lights flickered.

I froze, staring up at the flickering lights. The door slammed shut, causing me to jump. Cold, evil laughing filled the room. It sent shivers up and down my spine as the laughing grew louder and louder. I covered my ears, and suddenly the lights turned off.

The room plunged into darkness. I felt along the counter for the door, but with a quick gust of air I was on the floor. It was silent. My hair stood on end as my elbows dug into the concrete floor.

"Ember Williams!" A voice yelled, almost right in my ear. I shrieked, crawling backwards. "You wish to stop me do you?" The voice seemed ageless, and was neither high or low.

I huddled against the counter, my shoulder against the hard edge. "Er-Erebus?" I whispered. More laughing, then, "Yes child, it is I! Erebus! God of darkness and shadows!"

I found my voice, "Why are-are you attacking O-Olympus?" There was quietness. I thought he had left, but the voice returned,

"Ember, you don't know Zeus like I do. He is an evil man! Very evil! If a son of Poseidon or Hades flew in an airplane, Zeus would strike it down!"

I didn't speak. My tongue felt like sandpaper. I could feel a presence in the room, "Ember, listen to me. Zeus is evil! I only wish to kill him! Not anyone else!"

I gulped, "Then why do you have an army?" Erebus sighed, "Because Zeus will have one too no doubt. Listen child, you are one of the children of shadows. Join me! Join your brethren!"

I couldn't move or speak, I was in shock. Finally, I said, "Liar." Erebus roared and I was flung across the room and hit a stall door. The light returned and the door flung open. Clarisse ran in a worried look on her usual mean face.

"Ember?" She cried. She gasped as she saw me huddled on the floor covering my ears, blood flowing from my nose.
