Darkness

Chapter Four

"Ember?" The voice roused me from my slumber and I yawned, fully waking up. Through tired eyes, I could see Seth looking at me. Hos eyes were round and big.

"Seth," I slurred. He grinned as I began to blink looking around. Beds were lined in neat rows, some holding sick or hurt demigods. My siblings from Apollo's side were rushing from bed to bed. I spotted Riley in the mix.

"Em, talk to me!" Seth cried, seeing my lazy expression. I sat up straighter, "I'm, I'm fine Seth." He smiled in relief. Suddenly, the encounter from last night filled my thoughts. Evan is my brother, he would probably have had the same encounter.

I leapt up and started forward, but my feet were tangled in the sheets and I fell to the floor. Seth was laughing, but helped me up. Clarisse was gone, but I couldn't help but think about how kind she was.

After I was free from the sheets, I bolted out of there. Seth ran after me, calling my name. My feet hitting the floor made a steady rhythm, same thing with my fast paced breathing.

My cabin, was nestled between two pine trees, it's radiant gold blinding in sunlight. I didn't slow as I burst into the cabin, full of adrenaline.

"Evan?!" I cried, searching for my younger brother. He was konked out on his bunk, snoring up a storm. I sighed in relief, and sunk into my bed out of breath.

Seth's footsteps came rushing to a hault when he reached the door. A soft knock echoed through the room. I stood and opened the door,

"Everything is fine!" I yelled and slammed the door in his face. Okay, rude, yes, but I needed to talk to Evan alone. Making my way to his bunk, I kept an eye on the door, hoping none of my siblings entered.

I gently shook Evan's shoulder. He grunted and rolled over. Sighing, I shook both shoulders hard. Evan's eyes shot open, and his hand darted for a knife he kept next to his bed. Before I could realize what was happening, I was pinned to the floor with Evan pressing a knife against my throat.

"Evan?" I whispered. The boy recognized me and got off, putting his knife away. "Strange way to wake up Ev." He smirked, but didn't speak. I cleared my throat awkwardly,

"Okay, so did you have an encounter? Did the lights shut off, laughing and Erebus asking you to join him?" Evan looked down, his face grim. We stood there for awhile, then Evan said,

"Did you join him?" It sounded happy, almost hopeful. I shook my head, "Are you crazy? Of coarse not!" Evan bit his lip, and I rose an eyebrow,

"Did you?" Evan shook his head fast,

"No! No, of coarse not." I still didn't believe him, but didn't want to push it, so I nodded curtly,

"Alright, I'm going to shoot some arrows. Wanna come?" He shook his head, blinking slowly. I shrugged and grabbed my bow next to my bunk.

"I'll be at the Archery Range!" Evan nodded, without even looking at me. I frowned, but left my brother to his thoughts. I need to shoot some arrows.
