Darkness
Chapter Six
I yawned and opened my eyes. Styx, I must have fallen asleep. The stable I was in seemed to rock back and forth. Standing up, I realized the whole ship was swaying. It must be moving!
I rushed to the giant window and sat on the glass, peering down. Trees flew past us, Camp far behind. My heartbeat quickened. I've never left Camp since I was ten. I'm 14 now.
Seth came out of his stable and sat next to me, draping his hand over my shoulder. I tensed, but didn't move him. We sat there for awhile, when suddenly we hear footsteps and voices.
We both jump up and run to our stables, shutting the gates quietly. I buried myself in the hay, and listened silently.
"I just can't believe we're going on another Quest!" A male voice said.
"I know Percy, it sucks. But at least we're together." I realized this must be Percy and Annebeth.
"I just wanted to... relax for a bit." Percy said. Annabeth sighed, "Me too Seaweed Brain."
Then there was a sound of kissing. As it got more intense, I plugged my ears. Soon, the couple got up and left. Seth gave a horse neigh, signaling it all clear.
I emerged from the hay, strands sticking to my jeans and in my hair. Seth was busy picking his strands of hay out too. I suddenly frowned, "Where's Evan?"
Seth pointed to the stable, "He's been quiet, ya know? Just been sitting there, seems to be in his own world." I sit down on the glass and look out the big window.
Seth sits next to me, starting to pick hay off of me. I remember when my mom and I used to sit infront of our huge window in the Living Room, and we'd just talk for hours.
Sighing, I leaned back into Seth. He seemed surprised at first, but then let my head rest in his lap. As Seth kept pulling hay off of me, I asked,
"What's it like? You know, being a son of Demeter?"
Seth chuckled, "Very fun indeed! I can make a sunflower seed!" He opened the palm of his hand and shut his eyes tight. Biting his lip, he concentrated.
A little black seed suddenly appeared in the middle of his hand. He grinned and popped it into his mouth. I laughed when he hacked it up, a look of revolt on his face.
I sat up, and stood suddenly. Seth sent me a questionable look as I moved toward his stable. I opened the gate and Evan turned around. His eyes were red and puffy from crying, and he kept sniffling.
"Evan?" I asked cautiously. "What's wrong?" He didn't look at me, he just scrunched up in a ball whimpering. I sighed,
"Evan George Williams, you tell me what's wrong or so help me!" The boy took a shaken breath, "Ember..." I waited patiently as my brother took deep breaths.
"Okay, so when... when Erebus visited me, he-he said I was a Child Of Shadows. He-he said to join him... So I did..."
My shock quickly turned to rage as I grabbed Evan's shirt and slammed him against the side of the stable, "YOU WHAT?!" The boy's eyes turned cold,
"I joined my master Ember, and you should do the same." I growled, "Hades no!" I threw him into the hay, and left the stable, locking him in the stall.
Seth stared at me with wide eyes. I sat down next to him, and balled my eyes out. My brother turned evil.
