The Ultimate Fangirl

"Adeline! Get up or you're going to be late for school, sweetheart!" My mother called from the kitchen. I checked the time: 7:00 AM. Groaning and mumbling, I sluggishly got out of bed and dragged myself downstairs.

I sat at the table as Mom rushed over with a stack of pancakes and a cold glass of orange juice. I usually eat my pancakes quickly, but today, I'm really tired. That's because last night, I stayed up on the phone, arguing with my friends about Percy Jackson.

"Adi? Are you alright? You look terrible!" Mom looked at my sleepy expression. She always over-exagerrates about everything. For example, there was this one time where I complained to my mom about my stomach hurting, so she took me to the doctors'. The doctors'. For a stomach ache. Actually, it turned out I had a stomach virus that week, but that's not the point.

I grabbed some Kleenex and blew my nose, which was getting pink from irritation. See, it was flu season, and even though I got a shot, I felt like I may have had the flu. Currently, however I had a horrible cold.

"I feel...I feel...ACHHOO!" I sneezed. "Worse than I look."

Mom put a hand on my forehead and exclaimed, "Oh my! Adeline, my dear, you can't go to school today. You're sick!" She went up to the medicine cabinet in the bathroom upstairs to get me some Advil.

I rolled my eyes and mumbled to myself sarcastically, "Oh no, I'm sick! I'm gonna die because of a fever!" I took a big bite of my pancakes, which were now starting to get cold.

"I heard that!" My mom yelled from upstairs. She came back down and put the box of tablets in front of me. "I've got to run some errands, so I'll be back in about an hour or so. Don't leave the house or anything like that. Try to stay in bed, since your body needs rest. And finally, take your pills after you eat."

"Got it," I said, my mouth full with the last piece of pancake. I watched as Mom grabbed her purse and kissed my cheek.

"Get well soon," she said as she shut the door. As soon as she left, I took the Advil and clambered back upstairs. I grabbed my phone and lay in my bed, seeing if anyone texted me. No one did. Just as I was about to turn my phone off, I got a text from someone I didn't know.

SeaweedBrainIsMyName: hey leo? can you explain WHY MY HAIR IS BRIGHT RED?!

I just stared at my phone. What the heck? Was this guy some PJO fanatic like me? I replied:

TheUltimateFangirl: umm... my name is not Leo. it's Adi.

SeaweedBrainIsMyName: oh very funny Valdez. u think I'm dumb?

TheUltimateFangirl: O.O did u just say Valdez? as in, Leo Valdez?

SeaweedBrainIsMyName: LEO! STOP IT! I KNOW YOU CHANGED UR USERNAME SO IT LOOKS LIKE A GIRL'S! YOU CANNOT FOOL THE SON OF POSEIDON! ):<</strong>

TheUltimateFangirl: look, for THE LAST TIME: i don't know who you are or why you're making fun of my fandom, but stop texting me!

SeaweedBrainIsMyName: fandom? wat type of fandom? like twilight or harry potter or somethin?

TheUltimateFangirl: no. percy jackson and the olympians and stuff. u know.

SeaweedBrainIsMyName: ... my name is percy jackson.

TheUltimateFangirl: prove it.

He sent me a picture. And I almost fainted. It was him. It was really Perseus Jackson. Then I thought for a second and typed:

TheUltimateFangirl: do u know a guy named rick riordan?

SeaweedBrainIsMyName: yea i do. he wrote a so called 'fictional' story about all of us. u know this already. y are u asking me this, leo?

TheUltimateFangirl: MY NAME IS NOT LEO VALDEZ and are you saying that the greek and roman gods r real?

SeaweedBrainIsMyName: yea they r. and i know you're leo. anyway, i gtg.

TheUltimateFangirl: ...ur really annoying. bye anyways, perseus jackson.

SeaweedBrainIsMyName: i get that a lot. and don't call me that, flame boy.

I sighed and set down my phone, still in shock that I had just talked to someone I thought was only alive on the pages. I wanted to text my friends and tell them the news, but I was simply too tired. My mother was right. I should really get some sleep.

I lay on my pillow and let myself catch up on sleep.
