CHAPTER TEN:

POV DARREN

I wait patiently with the others around the ping pong table fiddling with my thumbs. Will next to me has nodded off in his chair his feet propped up against the table pushing his chair back on two legs.


Two Demter kids sit on the right of us also expericing boredom to the extreme as they try to resurrect one of Dionysus' plants. Dionysus wasn't a horticulturist by nature at all; especially since he fed his plant bad wine instead of water.


Directly in front of me sat two Hephaestus kids tinkering away at some gaget that I assume no one can comprehend their use if there was one other than to pass the time.


On my right were two empty seats normally filled by Athena's kids. But I came just in time to watch Chiron send Annabeth to fetch the other Athena kid. It's unanimous that we all hate him whatever-his-name-is, his pride, arrogance, and the fact he thinks he's higher than everyone else rubs everyone the wrong way. He seems to also in a weird way like that he's left alone, "The rabble would be honored to kiss my boot." I can imagine him saying.


I cringe at the thought, as the doors open and in comes Annabeth and-

"Alexander." Chiron greets him, "Annabeth, glad you are here in a timely fashion."


The Stoll brothers snicker.

"Please Chiron." Mr. Too Big For His Britches says with a smug rich kid look, "It's Xander. Please refer to me that way." He said sitting in his chair as if he was the CEO of a multi billion dollar company. He scoots his chair forward and folds his hands together on the table, "So what measly business have to you called upon me to discuss with you?"


Chiron sighed, while the rest of us rolled out eyes, "Gods bless Chiron for dealing with the spoiled brat, and his patience." I think as I look at the ceiling. Chiron motions to the table where a map lay out with several red pushpins litter it.
"We've had several reports of the golems that Darren, Hannah, and Lilly encountered-"


"Lilly-" Xander says out loud in a thoughtful tone, "Isn't that the little twip that died recently, Daughter of Hades?"


"Daughter of Hecate." Eternity replied with her bubbly voice from under that dark hood. Amonette's head turns and she kicks Eternity from under the table, "Ow!"
Amonette ignores Eternity's cry and turns her hooded head to Xander, "You better watch your tongue. Or certain things could happen."


"You wouldn't dare." Xander replied.


"Children!" Chiron yells.


"Try me." Amonette dares and there is silence for a moment as the two stare at each other and Xander chuckles, "You are beneath me small child."


"Small child?!" Amonette repeats with anger.


"STOP!" Chiron yells, "Let us work together instead of against each other. Please. Now..." Chiron begins to explain everything while Xander smirks slightly as if he won a battle and Amonette sticks her tongue out.


"... These golems have been sifted by mortals and even been causing some minor damage in some cities but the sightings have been moving east towards us and-"


"Excuse me." Xander raises his hand and sits forward, everyone groans, "But wouldn't it prove more fruitful to send a party to go to the source or perhaps the first sighting?"


"Are you volunteering for this job?" Chiron asks.


"Heavens no!" He laughs, and makes me cringe. Why did I have to sit next to the creep? "I cannot live without my books and luxuries!"


"My siblings and I will go." Amonette offers, "It takes wit and power to do this quest."

"We will?" Eternity asks and is kicked under the table, "Ow! Oh yeah we will."


Xander scoffs, "Excuse me! If it's wit and wisdom then there is no better candidate than I! I want to go."


"No way!" Amonette argues, Quests are for three people only!"


"Great! It's settled then!" Chiron interrupted happily, "Dragos will stay behind and Xander will accompany Amonette and Lilly.

"Chiron!"


Chiron silences Amonette and she groans sitting back in her chair. "Where you three will be traveling is to Chicago."
"Chicago?" I say sitting up in my seat, "Is that where the first sighting happened?"


"Yes Darren that's where the first sighting happened.


"That's where the Hunters lost Artemis ' scent and where Hannah was going."


I pause to let it sink in, "Sir, you have to let me go with them."


"I'm sorry but all the positions are filled." Xander states.


i turn and stare at his smugness with a slight glare as he smirks at me. I then turn to Chiron and he nods, "I'm sorry Darren but he's right."


Xander chuckles and I sit back in my chair upset. How can I go? Is there a way?



"Of course the Romans can send two demigods of their own and make a party for you to join." My ears perk up.

"of course they'd have to sanction it but it is an opportunity."


One I can live with. But the question is: Who would go with me?
