The Uprising

Chapter Five:
POV Darren.



As much as Hannah had assured me that she was going to be ok, nothing made me feel better.“Darren, please,” She says looking up at me with a smile, “Don’t worry about me, I’ll be ok.”
I am still not convinced, we stand a distance apart just staring into each other.
“What are you going to do when you find Artemis?” I ask.



“Get her out.” She says plainly with a grin, then it wipes away, “And it ask her a couple of questions.”
I put my hands in my coat pockets and smile mischievously at Hannah hoping to get an answer out of her, “What do you need to ask her?”
“That’s between me and her.” She says with a smile.“Oh come on you can tell me, your boyfriend.” I try to inch the answer out of her.
She pauses, maybe to figure out how to say it but she rises to her tiptoes and leans into my face and before I can say anything she quickly kisses my cheek and something like fire spreads all over me even though the rest of the outside is freezing, I felt like this intense forest fire in the dead of winter on my skin. I look at Hannah in a perplexing manner, since she insists on hardly holding hands, I don’t know why either. Once, yesterday, I tried to kiss her and she jerked back saying that she wasn’t ready. But her reaction was more along the lines of a wounded animal, I know because I work with Will Solace when we were treating the injured after the war with Gaea and the short while the Romans. But I backed off of Hannah and the night went on. Now the same girl that hardly hold my hand, kissing me on the cheek! I smile at Hannah but with questioning eyes I ask, “What was that for?”
“A bribe to get you to trust me.” She replies.


I chuckle mischievously, “What if I told you that I trusted you with my life?” I bounced my eyebrows for effect to milk maybe another kiss.


“Oh snap out of it you two!” Maxine complains, “Whatever you two do alone is your business but please keep it private.” I look out of the corner of my eye and see Maxine adjusting her gloves while rolling her shoulders uncomfortably.


Hannah steps away from me as Maxine’s icy glare bores into me, and all warm feelings that I had before are now gone. Hannah waves awkwardly at me and offers a good-bye.
I smile and reply, “Stay safe Hannah, Love you.”
Hannah smiles and I hear Maxine gag at the same time, then Hannah turns and they mount their pegesi that are waiting for them. Hannah nods at me as her pegesi seems to be getting restless as it begins to flap it’s wings.
Maxine leans over to Hannah, “If we hurry we’ll make it to Chicago in about two days!” The pegesi wings begins to beat. “Alright!” Hannah yells above the noise.
I slowly back up to put space between me and the girls.


Hannah then gives me one more look before she disappears into the sky.
