When the Sea meets the Sun

Chapter 7

I cover my head from the spray of glass and the lights go out. Gee I hope that Echo seriously knows that Seth and I are only best friends. ELIZA! Get your mind on the right track. “What”s going on?” I whisper.“I don’t know.” Echo replies.
“Eliza…” Seth comes up behind me.
“Stay down.” I harshly whisper.

I hear a scuffle like a fight, and I cower against the couch. My heart beats hard against my head and all the fears start to climb up from my stomach and into my throat. Or maybe that was the sandwich I ate. Then I hear loud hoofbeats enter the house clomping on the wood floor. My eyes adjust to the dark and I see a different centaur coming in with muscle, beard, hair, and awful the horse smell fills the room. I fight myself not to gag on the putrid odor as he sniffs the air walking into the kitchen where Seth’s Mother had left out some cookies on her kitchen island. I wish I had taken my bow inside.

Echo and I exchange glances and I somehow I know what she’s planning and I start to argue with you but she fights back.Honestly it feels like a silent movie with our inaudible arguments. I somehow lose the argument and I motion for Seth to say back. I turn my head and Echo is already walking up to the centaur. “Stay. Hide.” I whisper to Seth.

The Centaur must have heard me, because he looks around in our direction. I hold my breath as he scans the room; Echo finds some cover and waits to strike.
“Go!” I whisper again.
“No-”

The Centaur turns again and I stop from Seth talking, “I’ll be ok go. Hide. Anything.”
“Three.” The Centaur says in a deep voice, with a hint of surprise.Oh snap! He smells us! “Go!”

I hurry outside quietly and duck out to my car and got my bow out. I load it quickly and hurry back inside as I hear a scuffle and the light turns back on.

“I am so glad I have found you two, but where is the third?” I hear the centaur say as I line my back up to the wall and ready my bow. I hold my breath and flush everything out and quickly aim my bow and fire in the direction of the centaur. He blocks the arrow with his arm bracers then when I shoot a second one he catches it. Before I can I fire a third he shouts, “Stand down!” But I don’t stop until Echo and Seth yell at me to stop. Needless to say; I am completely and utterly clueless, “Wait, what?”
Echo stands up with a slight smile, “It’s Chiron.” She says as if sharing the best kept secret.
“Who?” I asked still confused because let’s be honest my brain is scrambled.“Chiron!” Echo exclaims a little louder, “Ya know from Greek Mythology, and Percy Jackson?”

My head swims, “What?!”“He was just about to explain.” Seth offers.
“But-”
“Give him a chance to explain.” Seth counters.

I sigh and sit down on a bar stool, “First,” I say, “How did you find us?”
“Well you did cause quite the commotion on the campus earlier and we sensed a convergence of enemies in this one area. Since there are three of you together you give off a strong smell.”
Well so do you, buddy.“Wait what do you mean three of us? What are we?” Seth asks.

“Simply put you three are demigods.” He replies.
“Like legit?” I respond, dumbfounded and kinda like there’s nothing I would doubt at this point. “Yes, indeed. But I don’t have much time to explain here. There’ll be more here soon. Get your car and follow me to the safe zone.”
“You mean Camp Half Blood?” Echo asks being hopeful.
“I mean the safe zone.” Chiron replies.

I pull on Echo’s arm and hurry back to my carn. Seth gets in the front seat and Echo begrudgingly takes the back. I put my bow in the back seat just in case and shut the trunk of the car. I walk around the front and sit in the driver’s seat turning over my car’s ignition as Chiron comes around the front. Seth adjusts the seat to where his sits far back and closes his eyes, “I’m missing an pre-calculus class for this.”
“Is that a good thing?” Echo asks.
“Very,” I reply as I back slowly out of the driveway.

Chiron leads the way down the road and I follow carefully behind him. “Hey guys watch out for-’ I stop myself and I realize I don’t know what they’d be looking for.
“Looking for?” Seth asks.
“You’ll know it when you see it.” Echo replies and looks out the window.
