My Life as the Daughter of Poseidon: Book One: True Me, True You

Rock 'n' Roll

The guards gave the us girls three rooms, each connected by a door to the next room, and Percy was down the hall from us. I walked into Alex's room, which in between mine and Shera's. She had her iPod blaring So What by P!NK out of the small bowl it was set it, which Alex had smartly figured out could be used as a speaker. "I thought you knew all about demigods?" I mused. "We're underwater. I figure Daddy who's too important to remember two daughters might be strong enough to hold off a couple measly monsters."
I rolled my ears and sat on her bed.
"Don't say that."
"I only speak the truth."
"And may I ask why you don't have P!NK's songs on your playlist?"
"How do you know-"
"You have the lyric video on, but you were singing the lyrics perfectly without looking at the screen."
"Athena kids."
"You're Athena's granddaughter."

Na na na na na na na na na na na na na.....

Alex must have noticed I wasn't into her "rock 'n' rock" because she turned down her music.
"I think we're supposed to go see him in a few minutes."
"I, frankly don't give damn."
"Come on."
Alex gave me a pouty baby face.
I grabbed her hand and dragged her down the hall, reaching into Shera's room and grabbing her as well, even though her loud, "Hey!" told me she was quite annoyed.
Percy apparently noticed, and followed me down the hall.

Poseidon was in his throne room, looking regally casual as usual, and I pushed both girls out in front of his throne and planted myself firmly behind them.
"I don't mean to be rude, my lord, but I believe you owe these girls an audience."
"Oh, is that so?"
"Yes, as I said, I believe it is."

What the hellhound was I doing?
It was one of those things that you just DO. You don't think about it, because you know you're right and you won't back down. So sort of like Alex on a daily basis. (I don't think she'll enjoy reading that. Oh hell. She might agree with me. No, she probably will.)

"Well, then, let's get down to business. Ladies, and Percy, how are you son? You have a quest to go on. You two need weapons."
"Weapons?! You conveniently forgot we existed, we meet you, and now you ask us about weapons?!" Alex said, her voice getting higher and more deadly the more she spoke.
"You lot down here in the ocean must have a hell of a lot of kelp in your heads if you think I am going to sit back and be treated like this by a GOD of all people!!!!"
Now, this, loud, mad line came out sounding quite British. Alex covered her mouth with her hand.
"Oh, crap, not again!"
Poseidon made an angry, dangerous face, but within a few seconds he was laughing.
"You are your British mother's daughter!"
"Wha..."
Alex was at quite a loss for words, which was quite rare.
"Yes, Alex. Your mother was a tough, smart, loud woman who loved to read and write. Her name was Emily, and she was a shark of a lawyer."
Alex was dumbfounded at this new information.
"Shera, your mother was a baker named Susan. She was kind and warmhearted and happy and funny. Both of your mothers were feminists, and I'm quite surprised either of them went out with me."
"So are we." Alex grumbled.
"Now, speaking of your mer-powers, have you learned to control them?"
The god looked at us.
"I guess that's a no. Well, you can control when and where you turn, but the, ehem, "default setting" is about ten feet deep in salt water."
Yup. Everything made sense. Sure.

Notes

Yes. I named Alex's mom Emily. It's a British name (sorta. Right?) and I needed a British name. Don't judge.
