I heard Pollux saying something to someone at the door to our cabin. I was just waking up, rubbing my eyes.

“She isn’t awake, so come back later.” Pollux sighed, sounding exasperated. I guess this conversation has been going on for a few minutes.

“Fine. Just tell her I was looking for her.” I heard Calum grumble, and I sat up quickly. I hit my head on the bunk above me, yelping him the impact.

“Looks like you’re awake.” Castor rolled his eyes at me, “Are you sure you shouldn’t be in the Hypnos cabin?”

After an eye roll, I got up and grabbed some clothes, “Cal, wait up!” I called ducking towards the back of the cabin. I moved the vines and changed behind them, which was a makeshift closet. Cal peered in at my while I tied my shoes quickly and brushed out my hair. Before running out I grabbed a hair tie, earning a little laugh from Calum.

“Look who got up early. You would’ve slept through breakfast.” He said as we walked across the grass, and I pulled my hair up.

“Nothing like skipping french toast.” I joked, my stomach rumbling in response. Calum shook his head at me, and elbowed me. I elbowed him back, and we kept nudging each other the entire way to the pavilion.

I left breakfast, following Amira towards the lake. She kept rambling about Cal and how hot his face is. I could only nod along, not getting a chance to ask why she was dragging me to the lake. Once we stepped onto the sand she turned to me.

“We’re worried about you.” She frowned at me, and I looked at her, confused.

“Huh?”

“Well, you’re with Percy all the time and yeah we want you to hang out with us, but it’s more than that. He’s the one from the prophecy and I don’t want you sucked into that world, Eve. You could die, and he wouldn’t even know! You could be off somewhere else in battle and get killed and he wouldn’t even know or try to do the revenge thing!” She raised her voice a little, and I shook my head, yanking my hand from her.

“No, Amira, that isn’t how this works. He’s my friend, and so are you. I’ll fight if I have to, but don’t stage an intervention because I care about someone!” I responded, causing her head to shake.

“He doesn’t like you like that, Eve! Stop dreaming about dating him!” She fired, and I couldn’t help but stare at her.

“Gods, Amira! I’m not into him like that! It’s called being friends, and caring about someone. I care about you but you don’t think I’m trying to get with you!” I spat back, shaking my head. Before she could say anything else, I stormed off towards the woods.

Little plants grew rapidly and I stomped through the trees, following my feet. After a few minutesI sat down, looking at the little flowers near my shoes. Some one tapped my shoulder, causing me to jump.

“Hey.” Cal frowned at me, and I groaned.

“Don’t tell me that you’re trying to make me abandon Percy, too.” I whined, burying my face in my hands.

“Nope, Amira took it a little far.” He sat across from me, and I scoffed. Cal shook his head, “I mean, I was talking about how Percy is more concerned with the world than your life.”

I shook my head, frustrated. They didn’t get it, that his loyalty could kill him. I’m there just to keep him from that. Against my better judgement, I looked up at Calum. His eyes begged me to talk about what I was thinking.

“His fatal flaw is loyalty.” I stated, looking down again, and I heard a sigh, “I’m just trying to keep it from killing him.”

As I looked back to him, he stood up. “Sorry, Eve.”

Before he walked too far, I got up and joined him, “Just, don’t kill him next time I see him.”

Cal flashed one of his bight smiles at me before stating, “No promises.”
