Insanity

Chapter Three

Another terror-filled night. Percy lay curled upon the floor of his cabin, blankets swathed around his shivering form. It was worse this time. He had been flayed open, set upon the dining table of the a Big House, as slabs of his own meat, dripping with his life fluids was sheared from his body, served to all of his friends- himself still somehow alive enough to be aware of the entire situation. Hearing the laughter as they devoured his living form, as fork and knife dug into his innards, tearing him apart. He was nothing more than a slab of meat for his friend's enjoyment. Hiccups punctured through heavy sobs as the boy clutched at his head, the visions that his nightmares had been visiting upon him ingrained within his memory. Every horrible detail, from the fiery pain of rended flesh to the sickening sound of innards being torn and ripped out of his belly was cast in vivid depiction.
He whined as he lay curled tightly upon the floor, sniffling as tears gushed from his eyes. "Just leave me alone... why won't you leave me alone..." He hiccuped, rocking back and forth. "I don't deserve this, just stay out, stay out of my head please just get out of my head!" Fear turned to anger, Percy beating his fists against his temples. "Get out get out get out GET OUT GET OUT!" He weeper openly, grinding his forehead against the floor of his cabin, fists pounding and pounding at his head, bruising the flesh as pent up frustration and sleep deprivation erupted in an agonized scream of rage and sorrow. Another crack in the window.
Everyone had noticed it. It was the way he walked. The way he talked. His body language just screamed it. Gone was Perseus Jackson, that cheerful, brash fighter, replaced by some hollow shell. He drifted aimlessly through camp, as weeks of interrupted sleep had taken its toll upon him. All of his friends knew that something was up, but none of them knew exactly what to do. He had pushed them away when they had tried to confront him, lashing out like a wounded animal any time they tried to console him or plead him to get help. "Too headstrong" some would say. "Too proud" others still. But none of them realized the gravity of the situation until that one, fateful day.

The day Perseus Jackson finally snapped.
