Darkness Reveals

Bets

“Camryn!” Luke shouts shaking her. He picks her up, and starts following me to the infirmary while I shout for Will.

“Will!” Luke yells with me. We run through the big house like cheetahs.

Will comes to the doorway, “What wrong?”

Luke sets her on a cot then lifts up her shirt to reveal a homemade bandage wrapped around her abdominals soaked with a red liquid. There is dried and fresh blood all over; it’s seeped down to the top of her blue jeans.

“Help her!” I yell.

Will pushes us back, and gets to work right away. He calls over a younger girl named Shelly. While Will washes his hands, Shelly takes Camryn’s jacket off, and cuts her shirt down the middle, so Will has access to the wound. Underneath her shirt, she has a blue nike sports bra on. Shelly cuts the homemade bandage in half, but doesn’t take it off. Will comes back with gloves on, and carefully removes the bandage trying not to take off anymore of the scab. I look away when I see it because I can see the flesh, and it looks horrible. He puts the bandage on a tray then pours a clear liquid on her cut. The liquid foams which I’m guessing is hydrogen peroxide. It cleans cuts, and stuff like that. Will must have been calling on his father for this one because a guy in scrubs flashes in, and takes over. He orders Luke, and I out of the room. At first I don’t go, but I soon realize that I won’t be making a difference in there.

I pace around along with Luke.

Apollo comes out. “You’re her brother right?” he asks me. I nod. “Do you know her blood type?”

“AB negative. Just like me,” I reply. I only know that because I had asked my mom all of our blood types for a school project.

“Rare. She’s lucky; we have to to do a blood transfusion. Let’s go!” he hussels.

We go into the room, and he sets everything up. He takes a pint of blood from me then gives me a bandaid, and nicely tells me to get out.

I get a glimpse of her face which is paler than before, and she’s in a cold sweat. I see Apollo put a yellow creme all over the cut then wraps gauze around her stomach a few times then uses a soft wrap to wrap around the gauze so it doesn’t move. That’s all I get to see before I’m pushed out of the room by Shelly.

Chiron has joined Luke who is sitting around the coffee table.

“What happened exactly?” he asks.

“We had no idea she was hurt until she passed out,” Luke says. “She must had gotten it before she got here.”

“She most definitely got it before. Dude, she patched herself up the best she could. It had already started scabbing over,” I say amazed.

My little sister is so brave. I saw the wound. Not only did she patch it up, but she cauterized it. I could tell; there was a few burn marks around the edges of the cut. What has she gone through that she had to do that and had the courage to do that?

I’m so mad at her! Why didn’t she tell anyone she was hurt?! What had she been doing when she was gone? She isn’t the same innocent little girl she once was. All of these thought running through my head right now are going to kill me! All I need to think about right now is Camryn’s health.

I crack my knuckles then start tapping them on the end table next to me.

Luke nudges me, “Dude. She’s going to be fine. She’s a tough girl.”

I give him a half hearted smile then go back to tapping my fingers. After ten more minutes, Will comes out with his dad.

“She’ll be fine; no major damage was done, but she’ll be out for a while. She lost a lot of blood. I left her a note along with a glass of nectar and square of ambrosia.”

I sit down in a chair next to the bed, and look at her: my baby sister. I pull the blanket over her shoulders. She looks a little better; her face is pale, but not as much as before. She has sweat dripping down the sides of her face, and is cold to my touch.

I get to see her for the first time in seven years then I almost lose her forever.

“You saved her you know,” Apollo’s voice whispers. “Had you not been here, she would’ve lost to much blood to go on living.”

“Thankyou,” I say looking around to find Luke. I was going to give him a look of reassurance because, well you know how I was in the other room. But the only people in the room right now are me and Apollo. “I have a question for you.”

“Shoot,” Apollo says.

“Why did you come?”

“What do you mean?” he asks confused.

“Why did you come, and heal my sister?”

“She’s my cousin,” he answers with a half smile.

“But so are most of us, but why her? I thought gods didn’t care about losing a few demigods,” I question.

“Look kid, did you not want my help or something?” he says with his laid back voice.

“No, no; it’s not that. I just want a straightforward answer for once.”

“I guess that is applicable,” he murmurs. “It was a favor for her father. Don’t tell anyone, okay. Or its my butt in the wind.”

I laugh as he flashes out. “I promise I won’t tell anyone,” I whisper.

I look back to Camryn; she’s all grown up now. She’s still short, but stronger than ever. The last time I saw her she was seven years old. Now, she is fourteen.

“Hey, uh. You can go get dinner if you want,” Will says putting some bandages in a cabinet. “I’ll watch over her.”

“Thanks Will,” I say getting up. I bend over, and kiss her forehead.

I trust Will. Even though he’s only fourteen, he is the best healer at camp. He patched me up when I first got to camp.

I head to the dining hall, but on my way I stop at my cabin to grab Percy.

“Yo! Percy! You in here!” I shout opening the door.

“Yeah!” he shouts equally as loud.

“Come on! I want to discuss some stuff at dinner,” I say in the doorway.

“Is it about how I made us get a week of extra chores?” he asks.

“What?!” I scream.

“Oh, you didn’t know about that?” he asks digging through his chest.

“No! Are you kidding me! Agh!” I complain. “Agh, let’s just go!”

He gets up, and shuts the chest. He throws some shoes on then races out the door. I shut it, and hurry after him.

I don’t eat much which bothers Percy because I usually eat like a pig. He keeps bugging me about it. “So what did you want to talk to me about?” he asks.

“I. Uh,” I hesitate scared that my voice will crack. “She’s here.”

“Who?” he asks concerned.

“It’s Camryn,” I say poking at my salad.

“Your sister!” he exclaims.

“Yours too bud,” I chuckle.

His eyes go wide, and food falls out of his mouth.

“You’re going to get flies in there,” I say.

“Where is she? I want to meet her!” he exclaims looking around.

“She’s in the infirmary,” I answer swallowing a tomato.

He looks dumbfounded, “Why? Is she okay?”

“She’ll be fine. Will is taking care of her.”

“What happened? I know she was kidnapped and everything, but what happened?” he repeats like a broken record.

I explain everything that Camryn told me before she passed out. And I told him why she’s in the infirmary.

“Sounds like she went through a lot,” he says shoving more mashed potatoes in his mouth. “Can we go see her after dinner?”

“I mean we can, but she probably won’t be awake till at least tomorrow afternoon.”

“I don’t care. I just want to see what she looks like,” Percy says smiling.

I can’t help but smile; both of them have so much in common, or used to anyways.

We leave dinner early to go to the infirmary. Will lets us in, and tells us to be quiet: that he has other patients sleeping.

“She’s beautiful,” he blurts out in a whisper.

“I know,” I whisper. I smile as I push her long wavy black hair out of her face. The color has returned to her face, and she isn’t as cold as she was before.

“I thought you said she was fourteen,” Percy says.

“She is! But she’s just a bit small. We don’t know why she is so small. Our mom is tall, and so were both of her parents!” I laugh while whispering of course.

“She looks like she is twelve,” he giggles.

"I know, but she's defiantly fourteen."

"Dang, she's older than me. I hope she gets better soon," he whispers.

"I bet she will."

"How much?" he jokes.

“Hey, I’m going to be making rounds to everyone else. When I get back, it will be time for the campfire.” Will says.

“Okay, thanks. We’re heading out now,” I answer.

We head down to the amphitheater to find Luke and Annabeth sitting together on a bench telling jokes. Well, not exactly; Luke is the one telling jokes. Annabeth is trying to laugh, but she doesn’t really have great sense of humor.

“Hey guys!” Percy yells over the singing.

“¡Hola!” Luke shouts.

“Hey,” Annabeth says looking away. I think I might have seen her blush a little.

Annabeth grabs Percy’s wrist, and pulls him away towards the beach. I laugh to myself; they would make a cute couple.

“I bet you twelve drachmas that they become a couple,” I say to Luke.

“I won’t bet on that,” he says. “It’s obvious they like each other.”

“You betcha,” I laugh. “How about when they do?”

“I’ll definitely bet on that,” he says eagerly. “I bet they’ll be together in the next two weeks. You gonna take the over or the under.”

“Under. They’ll be together within the next week.”

Notes

@Constrictor
Oh, thanks. Sorry if she does sound OP but she was even more before I rewrote the story. I love your new story! It sounds awesome!

Haha sorry for sounding rude, that tends to happen in school. A Mary Sue is a name for a character who is OP or Over-Powered. Now I was just thinking that, because I'm very nit-picky, but I love the story!

@Constrictor
Thanks for the feedback. May I ask, what is a Mary Sue or who is it?

I don't mean to sound rude, but this character is starting to sound like an Mary Sue. Scar across right eye? Daughter of the big three? Charm that she wouldn't get attacked by monsters?

I love it!
