Language
I read a lot of your stories, guys....and there are a lot of you who are super talented, but what always steers me away is when there is an overuse of swearing or language. Swear words are not adjectives, guys. They don't need to be used in every sentence. Plus, the age range on here can vary quite a bit, so just be aware that if you don't rate your story accordingly, then innocents can be reading it.
I would also suggest, if you want, using swearing as a shock value. If it's overused, then it gets really annoying, and the reader doesn't really know when the characters are really, truly angry. Being myself, I don't use anything strong. I will occasionally use sh*t or damn. I haven't posted any story with bad words in it (unless you count hell or screw it...which apparently some do).
Also, you don't have to write out the swear words...your characters can curse anyways.
...The yell was undeniably a masculine one. So was the flood of cursing that followed. Tessa backed away, then dashed for the door - but it had slammed shut, and tug as she would on the knob, it wouldn't budge. Bright light blazed through the room as if the sun had risen. Tessa spun and stared....*insert very long description here that I am too lazy to type out*....He seemed to realize she was staring at him, because the cursing stopped.
"You cut me," he said. His voice was pleasant. British. Very ordinary. He looked at his hand with critical interest. "It might be fatal."
Tessa looked at him with wide eyes. "Are you the Magister?"
He tilted his hand to the side. Blood ran down it, spattering the floor. "Dear me, massive blood loss. Death could be imminent.”
