The Black and White
The Beginning
Once, everyone knew. What it meant feel. To love. To hate. But after the war, the leaders of our world decided it was a better idea to lock those feelings away and wipe our memories and start over. Where everyone was equal, and there was no disagreement or war.
It worked for years. Over a hundred in fact. Until one day, I went past the boundaries of safety. The alarms flared, and sirens blazed, and the motorcycles in the distance got closer. But I was stuck. I couldn't move. I fell to my knees, as memories came flooding in. Images, sounds, smells, color. The words were familiar, but I didn't know where I knew them or where they came from.
I remember being dragged away, and waking up in a hospital bed, all seven of the Keepers standing around me, watching me. "You have broken our most sacred law. You passed the boundary, and now possess many things we did not want you to have. You have two options."
I interrupted them. "Actually, you have two options. You either leave me alone and I'll leave everyone else alone and not share the horrors that you have done, or I tell everyone and return their true memories if you try and kill me. I could do it right now if I wanted."
The looks on their faces were mixed. It was hard to read since they didn't have true emotions. I sat up in the hospital bed, and walked out, midst shocked faces.
That's how it happened on a less complicated scale. Now, I live alone, on the edge of the barrier, surrounded by books I 'stole' from the Keepers secret underground facility, holding everything they didn't want us to have.
Everything was fine, until one day. One fatal day. When the world as we knew it, started to crumble.
