The Black and White

The End

The end came faster than they thought.

First, it was the memories that would hit me in my sleep and at random moments. Images of war and battle that left me curled up in a ball, wanting to throw up. Then, the tremors. At noon, everyday, the earth would shake for about 10 seconds, then everything would be normal.

Then the doubt. People started to doubt the Keepers power, and ability to protect and keep in order. When they first started to get complaints, they immediately blamed me for letting memories out. But I hadn't. They locked me up and watched me 24/7 for a week. And when they kept seeing more doubt, they let me go finally, realizing it wasn't me.

I read through some of the book in my extensive library, looking for something similar to what was happening now. I found it in a more recent history book. I immediately went to the Keepers with my findings.

"I believe I have figured out how to fix our problem." I said.

"How about you tell us what is going on first, then what your solution is." One of the old Keepers asked.

I glanced to the side. They would never realize exactly how this would work and how many ramifications this would have. "I think, that because I've had these memories for so long, that maybe some of them are leaking out. And before you all start to freak out, I have a solution." I took a deep breath.

"I need a new host."

They looked confused. "A, new host?" one asked.

"Yes. Someones else to share my memories with. But it has to be a certain kind of person."

One of the Keepers gave me a smirk. "And what exactly is this kind of person."

"A Half-blood."

Gasps echoed around the room. "Why? Why does it have to be a half-blood?"

"So the memories don't seep out. The godly blood will protect them. They're stronger, and can handle memories better. It MUST be a Half-Blood."

They gave each other worried looks. "Look. I'm not stupid. I know my mother was Athena, so I know you keep tabs on all the Half-Bloods here."

"What do you suggest we do?"

I smiled. "Give me a list. A list of all eligible Half-Bloods, and I'll inspect them in their natural habitat so to speak, and see which one meets my criteria. Do this, and your secret stays safe. If not, everyone will know. Eventually anyways."

Needless to say, I got my list. There were less than I had expected, but I was grateful for it anyways. The first person on the list was Damian Dahrk. Kidding. We don't have last names anymore. It was just Damian. He was a mechanical volunteer, and helped create the drones that watched all of us. After a few days of watching him, I gave up, realizing that he was not the best candidate.

Next on the list was a girl. Sarah. She volunteered at the birthing center, helping the mothers as they gave birth. She was gentle, and innocent as a lamb, as she would lift up the babies, and feed them softly. She was too gentle.

Then Dan. He was too much of a thinker. He tended to over think the smallest things. Then, Keira, then Macey. All of them weren't the right type of person. But then, Nick was on my list. His full name was Nicolas, but he was my best friend. At least, till, you know.

I had to secretly watch him, though, I already knew him. And he was the closest person I had inspected that meet my criteria. I sighed inwardly as I walked away from the fourth day of watching him. Like it or not, he was the person I needed. Like it or not, he was my answer.
