The Temple of Fate

Chapter Four

Three attacks within fifteen minutes, and they called me a loose cannon of bad luck. She might as well have been a black cat and shattered mirror herself because since we left not only was I attacked but we were completely ambushed.

Rushing towards the outskirts of town we ran into some Ogres. These things were not such a pretty sight. Talk about sight for sore eyes. They had one big eye that was swollen up to the size of a cantaloupe and then had this thick grey skin that matted their body like they were enveloped into a cocoon.

The three ogres weren’t as smart as the other monsters but what they lacked in brains they made up for in bronze.

Aderianna took care of most of the monsters, while I stood back and just fled for my life. I couldn’t help it, considering the way I handled my old pal hellhound the demon spawn from the underworld, I decided taking a time out was well deserved.

Besides, I still had the nagging sensation that things were going to get worse especially considering that whole King thing was still on the loose.

Aderianna finished off the last Ogre as I hid behind some trees and well for lack of a better term, coward.

“You all done?” I sighed as I emerged from the trees.

“You’re such a coward.” Aderianna rolled her eyes.
“Yea, sure so you jumped right into battle after being convinced to walk out into the middle of the forest with some random person you just met. Top it off I have no battle experience whatsoever!”
Aderianna smirked. “Come on, its just up ahead.”
“FYI this was your fault anyways, you’re the one that jinxed us in the first place, calling out monsters like that.”
“Be happy only three packs appeared, I expected more from the King.” Aderianna commented. “Although, I expect more from you anyways too bad you’re not all that you were made out to be.”
I ignored her comment as we walked into a mystical light. Appearing in the middle of a camp site, I noticed we were stuck right at the center of an actual valley. Everyone gazed at us as we had spontaneously returned.
I looked around to see a man in his late teens early twenties and next to him was a man much older. He seemed to be the superior of everyone.
“You’re back.” The man smiled.
Aderianna bowed and forcefully dug my head down as well. “Bow down to the King you idiot!”
“Like hell I will!” I rose up to eye level. “I want answers dude. Why kidnap me and bring me here.”
“Kidnap?” The man remarked. “Aderianna here has some unorthodox methods please forgive her. She’s learning to cooperate with others.”
“Well, I guess I’ll let it slide since you’re cool about it.” I sighed. “So what is this place and can someone please explain why are monsters attacking me?”
“My name is Mihkeals,” The man announced. “It’s been so long since we found word of a new King to be here in the home of Havenly. Now, I am temporarily the king due to your absence.”
“King?” I asserted. “What does that mean to you?”
“You help provide stability for this place, you are our leader, guide and most importantly our hero.”
“Why am I the king though?”
“You’re a demigod son of the three Kings after all.” Mihkeals responded. “Zeus, Poseidon and Hades. One of those gods is your father and you are born to be of great power.”
“How will I know that?” I sighed. “Look man sounds like you’re just feeding me cool stories; I don’t want to be a demigod or a king. I just want my normal life. Let’s just pretend you didn’t drag me out into the forest to do some hazing and just get about our lives. I have a skate park to be at anyways.”
Turning to leave Aderianna blocked my path. “Listen to him, Mihkeals knows what you’re going through he’s felt it before. After all he’s our temporary King.”
“Jason, what have you learned about Greek Myths?”
“The basics, Kronos eats his kids, Zeus lives slays his dad and saves his siblings. Then there’s many myths of Hercules, Perseus and many other heroes.”
“They all had one thing in common.” Mihkeals responded.
I glared at him anticipating his answer.
“They all became kings of sorts.” Mihkeals smiled. “You too will bask in that greatness, but first we must begin with the festivities please stay here for tonight and if you feel the same way in the morning then you may leave if you so choose to.”

“But Mihkeals!” Aderianna pleaded.

“Leave it be, Ade.” Mihkeals remarked. “After all he does have a choice; we can always wait for another child of the three.”
