The Temple of Fate

Chapter Three

Every time. I thought to myself as I gazed at the bloodhound. Every time I had a semi decent school year something had to ruin it. It always happened.

First grade, I got into a fight with a bully. Second it was an uplanned swim for my class at the local aquarium. Fast forward a few years and add in a couple more expulsions and now we’re here.

I was being attacked by this creature, this bloodhound of sorts.

Rising up to my feet. I gazed at it angry. I was angry at the fact that it disrupted the last few minutes of my school year. I was angry that this creature chose me out of the thousands of other adolescent teens in this school. But most of all I was angry that I was going to get expelled, again.

The anger swelled up inside me once more that I gazed at it with nothing but anger in my eyes. This time I did it again. I’m not quite sure what it was but the monster hesitated at attacking me. Then it grew into a monstrosity.

The bloodhound grew bigger and leaner. It’s feral muscles grew and swelled up until the creature stood on its hind legs. The creature was no longer dog-like and more so beast.
I remembered a trip to the local museum and a sculpture of something that this looked like.
Trying to think back on the name for the creature, it slapped its palm against the floor and unleashed a shockwave.

Flying backwards, I hit one of the lockers on the opposite end of the hall as I gazed at it once more. Whatever it was that I tried to do to it, made it mad.

Struggling to get up to my feet, my body froze. Now I was terrified. This creature was not only bigger than me, but it also was after me. Charging up toward me, the beast roared as it narrowed its distance between me.

In a ferocious slap against the lockers next to me, the creature took a second then roared at the top of its lungs.

Fearing death, I closed my eyes.
This is it. I thought to myself. No skatepark today. No more of this hard knock life. This is the end of my story.

In a frail roar, I opened my eyes to see the monster being fought back by the same mystery girl from before.

Her movements were skilled and well defined. She had a knife in hand and her face was filled with determination and focus.

She quickly climbed onto the beast and stabbed his neck. Slowly scathing downward, the mystery girl drew the blade towards the floor as the beast fell to its knees.

Taking a deep breath, the monster disappeared into nothing but dark gold ashes. I gazed at her as she glared at me with a sense of disinterest and discontent.

Offering me her hand she sighed. “Come on, there’ll be more after you shortly we need to get to Havenly.”

Taking her hand, I rose up to my feet and gazed at her curious as to what she was talking about. “What? More? What the hell was that?”

“Not quite sure, it appeared to be a hellhound but then transformed into a Deminion.” The girl replied. “I would say some form of hybrid creature new to the Underworld.”

“Okay, well first let’s start with names?” I asserted. “Who are you and why is it that no one besides me seems to know you’re new to the school?”

The girl sighed. “I am Aderianna Blake, and I was sent here to find you my King.”

I frowned at the sound of the word. “Umm, thanks but my name is Jason Wells. I’m no king.”
“Let’s just say this has more to do about your father than you think.” Aderianna sighed, “Now come on and let’s go before more of those creatures come about.”

“Wait a sec!” I stopped. “Before I go anywhere with you, I need to know as to why I am so important, and why is it that the creature was after me?”

“Because you’re the King.” Aderianna replied. “I can’t explain everything but I do know someone who can. His name is Mihkeals and he’s way more in tuned with the forces of nature and the looming Prophecy that you will be a part of.”

I gazed at her uncertain if I should trust her. “What happens if I decide not to go with you?”

“There’s only two outcomes;” Aderianna advised, “either you come with me because I make you or you end up dead regardless. Like I said there are more monsters that will be after you. No need in trying to make this complicated. But you didn’t fair against that monster, so what makes you think you’d survive against anything more troublesome?”

I sighed. “Fine, where exactly is this Havenly at?”

“At the furthest edge of the forest.” Aderianna replied. “Come on, we have to get there fast. Knowing your scent, I would be surprised if we end up being attacked half a dozen times.”
I sighed knowing that whatever this girl just said would end up coming back to haunt her.
