Appreciate It

Annabeth woke up to a bird singing outside. She sat up and stretched. She hadn’t felt so good since… wow. Since before Percy lost his memory. She didn’t have any bad dreams last night. Or the night before. In fact, for the past three weeks, she barely had any bad dreams.
If she did have bad dreams, it was about Tartarus, Percy, or Leo. All to be expected. But, last night, she had none. She got up from her bunk and looked around. Only a few others awake, so she knew it wasn’t all that early. The sun shone through the windows and doorway, though it wasn’t all that bright.
She walked to the restrooms. The shower was nice, and she got a glimpse of the calm that Percy feels in water. She got dressed. Just a normal orange Camp Half-Blood shirt and jeans. And they were clean! Annabeth still appreciated things a lot more, especially since Tartarus and defeating Gaea.
She walked outside, and wondered when Percy would get up. Speak of the devil, Percy popped out of the men’s restroom. He beamed at her. “Oh hey.” She smiled back. “Hi.” He walked towards her and slipped his hand into hers.
They walked side by side, in slow strides. Annabeth felt the warmth of the sun on her back, and the sturdiness of the slumbering dirt at her feet. Finally, even if it was for a little while, Annabeth got some peace.
“Hey, Annabeth. Have you written to your dad in a while?” Annabeth nodded. “I sent a letter as soon as I could. When are you going to visit your mom? Oh, and Paul?” Percy smiled a bit. “I dunno. Maybe this week. I don’t even know if Chiron will let me.” “Of course he will. He knows that you could handle a few days out on your own.”
“Yeah. So, you are going to come with me, right?” Percy looked at her. “O-of course.” Percy smiled again. “Good. But, uh, don’t mention… ya know, Tartarus, okay? I really don’t want her to worry.” Annabeth nodded. “Of course.”

The rest of the day was relatively normal and boring. At first, at least. Annabeth and her friends had breakfast. She sat between Nico and Percy, and next to Nico sat Will. They talked all through breakfast. Piper and Jason came to breakfast only a little late. They were both pretty sweaty, but clearly happy to have had some alone time.
But after they sat down, Piper made an announcement that quickly brightened everyone’s day a bit more. Once Piper got everyone’s attention (which wasn’t hard) she began. “Um. Last night, I had a dream. About Leo. I saw Festus, with Leo on his back. Or, I think it was Leo. And Calypso.”
Everyone cheered. Jason smiled (he clearly already knew). Hazel hugged Frank, and they both cried. Then, Hazel exchanged looks with Nico. Annabeth and Percy beamed at each other. Will Solace smiled politely.
After that died down, they all just talked. They determined that Leo would probably be back within the week. Within the week! The rest of the camp found out soon. Hephaestus kids skipped out on the rest of their breakfast when they heard, presumably to make fireworks.
Afterwards, though, Piper got a bit more serious. “Um, also, Jason and I were wondering if you guys have had any bad dreams lately.” Everyone shook their heads contentedly. No, everyone was pretty peaceful. “Like the calm before the storm,” Jason muttered.
“Oh.” Hazel looked down, like: yeah. That makes sense. “So, should we alert… someone? Do we have to halt any, er, plans? Like, is there a plan?” Percy put in. Piper instantly shook her head. “No. We should just live our lives. Plans don’t work against an enemy that might not even be there.” Everyone nodded. And went on with their relatively normal day.
