It's Not Too Late: A Percy Jackson Fanfiction

Chapter Three

I looked at Percy, who looked like he didn't know whether to laugh or cry. We made eye contact and I knew he wanted to leave. Nobody cried but the Ares cabin, which felt wrong. I bit my lip and looked around, none of them even bothered to look sad. One girl, a child of Ares, was kneeling with her face in her hands, sobbing. The sky rumbled and rain started pouring down.
"What happened?" Percy broke the silence. A few glared at him, but it was a fair question.
"It was a dragon, from the woods. I saw her fighting it, but it was too late when I got here," said the crying girl. She was her friend.
"Go, eat breakfast, we'll take care of this. I'm sorry for your loss," Chiron said. He had of course seen tons of demiods die, I'm not sure it bothers him anymore. I turned around walked towards Thalia's tree. Percy started following me. I hated Clarisse, yeah. But I never wanter her dead.
"Guys!"
"Huh?" I turned around. A glowing twenty foot tall figure was moving closer to Clarisse. As he got closer, I recognized Ares, god of war, and Apollo, god of the sun. Percy and I started to run towards them in disbelief. Percy hates Ares.
"Apollo, Ares! How nice it is to see you?"
"How did my daughter die?"
"My lord, Ares, Clarisse was attacked by a dragon," Chiron said.
"Apollo, can you heal her?"
"My lord, she's dead."
"Can you?"
"I can try, but I need you all to leave." Apollo looked at Chiron, who was walking away.
"Not you." Chiron turned back around. I grabbed Percy's hand and walked to Thalia's tree.
"Oh my gods," I said.
"Clarisse is.."
"I can't believe it either."
"I don't know what to think. I hated her, but I didn't really want her to die," Percy replied.
"Maybe Apollo can heal her, but you've got your own problems to worry about," I frowned.
"Well, we have to wait till Apollo is done with.. whatever he's doing."
"Don't you find it a little strange that Ares cares all of the sudden?"
"I don't know, but I don't want to talk about him," Percy said him like he was referring to a dragon that just gobbled up his mother. Peleus layed down and waited for an intruder, it wasn't going to happen.
"Percy, five years ago, when I met you, I never knew I would care this much about you."
"I still remember the first thing you ever said to me." I couldn't even remember that, and I have an amazing memory.
"What was it, punk?"
"You drool in your sleep."
"Oh yeah," I laughed. "I was twelve."
"I love you, Annabeth."
"I love you too, Seaweed Brain." He scooted closer to me and kissed me, I kissed him back. As we kissed I felt like for a moment everything was perfect, and I forgot about everything. How does he have that effect on me? Being a daughter of Athena, it's not like me to act all love sick, but I can't help it with him.
"I hope my mom is okay."
"Me too, Percy."
"If anything happens-"
"Don't think like that. We'll go to Chiron as soon as we can. She'll be okay."
"Thanks." I pulled him closer to me and gave him a comforting hug. "I love you," Percy whispered.
"I love you too," I whispered back.
"Well isn't that sweet," said a very familiar voice. "Almost as if you'd hold the weight of the sky for each other." Percy and I looked at each other and started laughing, because we actually had held the sky for each other. Literally.
"Clarisse?"
"If I weren't so happy that I'm still alive, I'd bruise your other eye, Jackson."
"It's good to see you too, La Rue," Percy smiled. Clarisse walked away, and about five of her Ares friends followed her.
"Looks like Apolo did well."
"Or bad," Percy giggled.
"Come on, let's go talk to Chiron about your problem."
"Alright," He sighed, as if he knew this wouldn't work. We hurried down to the Big House and opened the door. Chiron, along with Mr. D were sitting at a table playing a game of cards. Chiron was wearing a hot pink shirt that said, I'm a sexy centaur. How disturbing.
"Chiron?"
"Hello, Percy, Annabeth," he greeted.
"Um.. What's with your shirt?"
"It was a bet I lost, anyways, can I help you kids?"
"Yeah. Can I talk to you alone?" Percy glared at Mr. D from the corner of his eye.
"Oh fine. I'll just leave you and the sea god's brat alone." He sighed and left the room.
"So, what is this about?" Percy told him about his dream.
"And so you expect me to let you leave camp because of a dream you had?"
"Chiron, I'm being serious," Percy said.
"I don't kmow, that's awfully dangerous."
"Please," Percy begged.
"You can't go alone," Chiron argued.
"That's why I was wondering if I could come go with him," I stated. Percy shot me a look of gratitude.
"You don't have to do that Anna-"
"Yes I do."
"I suppose if both of you stay together. How are you going to get there?"
"Blackjack, how else?"
"Be on your way. Good luck, young demigods!" Percy darted out of the Big House. I chased after him, funny because my last name is Chase. We ran to Cabin Three. He grabbed a backpack, and stuffed it full with water bottles, two shirts, one other pair of jeans, and some Golden Drachmas.
"Now let's go to your cabin get what you need," he said. I grabbed two shirts, two pairs of jeans, and my magic Yankees hat.
"We should go get some Nectar, and Ambrosia from Chiron," I suggested.
"Good point." We walked down to Chiron together. He was still wearing that god-awful tee-shirt.
"Percy? Why aren't you gone?"
"We need a little bit of Nectar and Ambrosia, just in case." Chiron galloped into the infirmary and came back out with a little bag of Ambrosia, and a bottle of Nectar.
"Here, be careful guys."
'Thank you, Chiron."
"See you soon." With that we raced down to the stables and found Blackjack.
Hey, Boss. Did you bring me any sugar cubes?
"Not today, buddy, but I need your help."
Anything for you, Boss.
"
Please don't call me that."
Okay, Boss."
"I need to save my mom. I'll tell you where to fly, just please help me," Percy begged.
Get on, and is the pretty girl coming?
"Yes, Annabeth is comin with us."
Is she your girlfriend?
"I'm not sure," Percy said. I didn't know what he and that pegasus were talking about. "Take me to, 3804, 97th St."
Sure thing, Boss. We started to get pretty high up, so high that clouds were below us now. I looked down, which wasn't very wise of a daughter of Athena who isn't used to heights. My heart sank. We were so high up! I wanted nothing more than to hang onto Percy, but I didn't want him to know that I was scared. My head was starting to hurt, and I felt a little bit dizzy.
"How you doin', Wise Girl?" I didn't want to reply. I just closed my eyes, and prayed for this to end. This was so terrifying, was Percy actually having fun? I don't know how he does this all the time.
"I-I-I'm ok-k-kay." But I wasn't okay. I was scared out of my mind. I didn't know I was so scared of heights until now. I'm sure I didn't sound okay, because Percy glanced back at me and smiled just a little.
"You don't look okay," Percy pointed out. "Do we need to stop? We can," he continued. We'd only been on Blackjack for ten minutes.
"I-I'll be f-fine." I closed my eyes again, this was torture.
"Do you want to go to sleep? I won't let you fall."
"Th-th-that's ok-k-ay."
She sounds like she's gonna be sick.
My face must have been pretty pale, because Percy leaned real close to Blackjack's ear, and whispered, "She looks like she's gonna be sick."
"I am n-not g-going to be-" My mouth filled up, and I didn't know what to do, so I just held it. I didn't want to swallow it, and Percy will be grossed out if... Percy turned around and saw me with my cheeks all puffed out. I swallowed it back down. "Just seeing how long I can hold my breath," I lied.
"Yeah. Okay," Percy laughed.
"H-h-how cl-close are we?"
"Not even close," Percy said. This sucked, I felt like I was going to die any second, and we were nowhere near our destination.
"Aww m-man!"
"Are you sure you're okay?"
"Doin' j-just f-fine."
"Do you need something? A bag?"
"No! I"m f-fine," I yelled. But I felt like I was gonna fall and die.
"I don't believe you, but okayy."
"P-Percy"
"What?"
"When are we going to be there?"
"At least a couple of hours." I sighed.
"I hate this so much."
"I'm sorry, me too."
"I'm sorry about your mom. We'll save her. It'll be okay."
"Annabeth, are you sure you don't want to take a nap?" A nap sounded nice.
"You promise you won't let me fall?"
"I love you too much."
"Okay." I relaxed my head on his shoulder, and closed my eyes. Before I knew it, I was sleeping. When I opened my eyes again, it was because Percy was shaking me awake.
"Annabeth?"
"What?"
"You drool in you sleep."
"You're such a Jerk!"
"Blackjack was tired, so we stopped. I brought us a Sprite to split, and two cheesburger. I had to get about twenty extra for Blackjack. Now he's asleep." Percy himself looked like he was going to fall asleep.
"Oh. Thank you."
"Your welcome," Percy bit his cheeseburger. "How are you feeling?"
"I'm not really that scared anymore. I was really scared for a little while. It's cool now." When he finished his cheeseburger, I had an idea.
"Do you want to go to sleep?"
"That's okay," he said yawning, and eyes drooping down.
"Percy," I stared at him.
"Okay. Thank you, Love." Love? He just called me Love! Well guess what Percy Jackson, you're my love too. I smiled at him sweetly as he drifted off to sleep.
