When MYTHS Become Real

A Little Electroshock Therapy

I know that Percy's said it a few times, but I'll just reiterate: the life of a demigod isn't nearly as awesome as mortals would think. We have crappy life expectations and often have to do things that normal people wouldn't have to go through. For example, trying to kill your boyfriend or having one of your friends kill you first and not having any choice in the matter.
That's what my life was in that moment. Mnemonsyne laughed as she hacked away at Nico. My boyfriend was an amazing fighter and he was doing a great job at holding his own without hurting me, but I didn't know how much longer he could hold out.
Besides, Clarisse La Rue wasn't nearly as worried about my safety.
Her electric spear, a gift from her father Ares, appeared almost out of no where and grazed against my ribs. I hissed in pain and rounded on her. Water gathered around me and I felt the wound heal instantaneously. My eyes narrowed at the big brunette girl as a giant, icy fist knocked her directly off her feet. I rounded back on Nico who'd been using my distraction to catch his breath. "Giving up so soon?" Mnemosyne taunted. "And here I thought that demigods had the potential to be heroes."
"Annabeth, no!" Percy shouted from somewhere behind me.
I took control again. I spun in a frantic circle just in time to see Medusa descending on Annabeth. Her eyes were squeezed shut and her knife slashed at the snakes tring to bite her. Medusa was practically on top of her when Percy jumped between them. It took all of two seconds for my big, overprotective brother to solidify into a stone statue.
I think that everyone, campers and even gods, were in shock that Percy Jackson was beaten by Medusa. If the stories were true, he'd already bested her when he was only twelve and now she'd won.
My heart was pounding a million miles a minute and I could feel Mnemosyne fighting with me to take over but I wasn't letting her in. I wanted to get rid of her for good and my ADHD was kicking in for me to do something completely crazy. My brain was able to take in several things at once. First, the gods and their kids were losing. Second, the stupid puddle portal was still unleashing monsters. Third, Clarisse was coming at me again with her spear sparking electricity. Nico tried to stop her but she was like a bulldozer and I didn't help my case in the least. A steady stream of water lifted to wrap from my hands to the spearhead. But instead of trying to deflect her attack, the water conducted the electricity 20 feet away until it zapped the hell out of me.
I flopped to the ground and I'm pretty sure that I blacked out for a moment because when I was able to comprehend my suroundings again, Nico hovered over me. Every single thought in my head zeroed in on him. "Naida?! Can you hear me?"
His dark eyes bored into worriedly and I wanted nothing more than to kiss him. My lips were already tingling from the elctroshock and it would be really easy to just give into temptation. I licked my numb lips and my buzzing fingers gripped the hilt of my sword. "I'm really, really sorry, Nico," I whispered.
His eyes widened and a small smile started to curve his mouth upward, but it didn't get far enough to light up his features like those rare smiles could. The butt of my sword hit him squarely in the back of the head. He grunted and slumped unconcious to the side. I felt horrible about it, but now he wouldn't be in the way and I wouldn't have to worry about him.
My legs shook when I made it to my feet and had to pull energy from the puddle around me before I had enough strength to sashay up to where Annabeth was screaming like a banshee and trying to hack away at the gorgon. I flipped my hair back and popped out my hip being extra careful to keep my eyes down.
"Hm, not bad," I said cooly even though my stomach was rolling over like a tsunami. "Not as impressive as me taking over the stronger Poseidon child, but I'll give you a little praise, Medusa. Even if I am the reason you were able to come back."
I saw her black goucho pants whip around toward me and a snake hissed near my cheek. A chill raced up my spine but I held my ground. "He won't be able to come back, will he? Wouldn't want you to fail again."
"Not even if I'm dead." Her voice was like a million flies.
Shoot. "Good. I can't have you making me look bad when this is all over."
One of those snaky tendrils on her head was close enough to ruffle my silky red stands of hair. I was pissing her off but I had to think of someway to get my pain in the butt brother back. Playing the part of Mnemosyne, I lifted my hand and a sheet of water shot skyward, blocking off Annabeth's attack. "Don't underestimate him agin."
"The only way he'd come back is if I was petrified. That's not going to be happening any time soon."
The second Harry Potter movie popped into my head and I wondered if a Hogwarts basalisk would be able to petrify the snake lady. I pushed the thought from my mind. Unfortunately, my life wasn't like a J.K. Rowling novel. Focusing back on the issue of my petrified brother, I ran a hand through my hair and smiled at Medusa. "Good to know." I made a motion with my hand that caused the wall of ice barocading Annabeth away to wrap Medusa in a cacoon. she was still alive but she wouldn't be wrecking havok on Camp Halfblood for quite a while. Annabeth stared at me for a while with her deadly knife drawn. I glanced around, but no one was paying us any attention with everything else going on, and put my hands up in a calming gesture and hoped she wouldn't try to skewer me because let's face it, she'd kick my ass.
"Naida?"
"Yeah, it's me. Mnemosyne got zapped out. But no one else can know yet, not until we find a way to fix this mess."
"And how do we do that?" "I'm still working on that. For now, just keep trying to keep the Titans back. You have to rally the campers because lord knows the gods need our help to win this. And if you can check Nico and make sure none of the Ares campers kill me that would be awesome."
She wrapped her arms around me in a quick hug. "Be careful okay. I'll see you when this is over."
I squeezed her back and let go quickly before anyone saw. "Same goes for you, Annabeth." We pulled away and ran off in opposite directi
